Default Is this Normal?

Heres my truck in the morning Cranking after new glow plugs, relay, injector o-rings, and ccv mod. Still seems like a lot of smoke to me. It looks blue in the video, but its actually white.
It was probably 65 or so outside temp during the video.

How many miles on the truck?

Does the smoke smell like diesel fuel?

I can't tell by the video, but it could be leaky valve seals letting oil into the engine when it sits and then burns off when you start it up, could be the problem if the smoke smells like oil. If it smells like oil, remove the oil filler cap and see if you have all kinds of smoke coming out from there. Some of the OBS trucks had a bad filter cover on them and they would draw dust into the engine and wipe out the rings . . . oil smoke from exhaust with excessive blow by from the engine will indicate this scenario.

If it smells like coolant, you have a leaky injector cup and will need to replace those. Do you have any fuel in your coolant . . .or coolant in your fuel? Those would be additional indicators of that issue.

If it smells like diesel, you've got some worn out injectors. Generally Heui injectors are only good for 200k-250k miles highly dependent on oil changes and filter maintenance.

shoot me a PM if you want to talk in more detail about injectors, I can remanufacture HEUI injectors in house for very affordable rates if that ends up being your issue.

you may want to start with the more realistic things like checking for excessive fuel pressure

Good idea too although heui's will handle a heck of a lot of pressure, but it's worth a shot. I didn't hear an aftermarket pump on the truck, and the obs have a small mechanical pump so the risk of a severe over pressure is generally pretty small, but worth a look see.

Fuel pressure is 55-60 at idle, which ive heard is normal. I pulled all the injectors and cleaned the carbon from the tips while i was replacing the o-rings, but now I am thinking maybe I should have Paid to send them off and get stage1s or at least refurbed stock injectors. I also should have done a compression check while the plugs were out. Honestly im trying not to think about worn rings. Truck has 196k or a little better and has bee babied as far as I can tell. No mods at all and no gooseneck or 5thwheel. Smoke clears up after truck gets warm by the way.

Another thing I thought I should mention is the fact that the turbo is obviously leaking oil everywhere form the pedistal. Something I would like to fix, and could use some suggestions as far as that goes. If I pull it loose, which im sure will not be fun, should I have a shop rebuild it or can I just replace the bearings and whatnot myself? Also, could this be part of the smoking issue?

Honestly, i wouldn't worry too much about worn rings. Most of those trucks had the filter boxes replaced under warranty and very few would have made it this far with the issue . . . so wouldn't worry about it . . .it was just something to check off the list.

Fuel pressure is right where it is supposed to be. With 200k on the ticker, there is a strong chance its just that the injectors are wore out. Nozzle springs like to crack on those and then the nozzles will leak. If you're feeling ambitious, you can get a set of aftermarket nozzles and nozzle springs, pull the injectors apart and replace them. Or if you want, shot me a PM and we can work something out. I would plan to talk with ya a little more before you pull the injectors just to be certain we've covered all the basis . . . worst thing you could do is have them built and it not fix the issue.

Missed your second post, the pedestals will usually develop a leak at the actuator for the back pressure valve. That won't can't get into the exhaust so likely is not your problem . . .now if its leaking out of where the turbo mounts to the down pipe . . .that would be a leaky turbo and could cause that smoke issue.

if its the pedestal, you can just disconnect the backpressure valve, cut the rod off of the pedestal and plug the hole with a 1/8 or 1/4 pipe plug IIRC and it will fix your issue . . .and gutting the back pressure valve will free up the exhaust . . .granted you'll lose the benefit of it in the cold to help warm the truck up faster, or the ability to use it as an exhaust brake. If you want to retain the function, we can get you a replacement pedestal.

Does the smoke smell like oil or diesel fuel?

I think the smoke smells like diesel, and it burns your eyes. a few folks have told me its pretty normal for the truck to warm up that way, even when its warm outside. I just figured I would wait for some more OBS guys to weigh in on it before I do anything major to it. I really dont wanna pull it apart again until Ive had some time to get some parts together.
Im sure I will put injectors and a chip on it later, but my valve covers are rusted out on the bottom and I had to JB weld the CCV doghouse and monster it back on(which leaks under the hood now).
Id love to get another 25K out of it as it sits if this is not a major issue

(I totally understand that. Injectors in those truck typically fail in 2 different ways
1) the oil side gets out of spec and the truck will start and idle rough and then when it gets cold it eventually won't start at all.
2) the nozzle start to leak (typically due to nozzle spring failure or bad fuel eroding the pintles) and they leak and haze a lot.

Neither is necessarily detrimental to the life of the engine. If leaky nozzles get bad enough they can drive the egt of that cylinder high enough to melt the piston, but that is generally a rare occurrence and you will often have symptoms that go with it . . . engine knock or loud idle, and hazing.

Honestly, I understand the point of what you put your hard earned money into and when. If you ever decide to take a look at things or dig into it, give me a call. I'm not your typical injection shop and i'm definately not gonna set you back for a full set of injectors . . . i can diagnose the problem and fix just that issue and get you back on the road if you'd like . . .or i can build you a set of monster injectors. We will give you our thoughts along the way, but you ultimately have to decide how much you can justify putting into your truck.

mine'll do that on a cold start for about 30 seconds.
longer obviously at -35 (someday, someday I'll have a ProHeat).
