added cruise control
I put the horn pad with cruise control and jumped the wire that goes to the brake master cylinder and cant get it to work. I have replaced the third brake light and still nothing. I also took the steering wheel of and cleaned the three pins and still nothing. Is there a fuse that needs to be checked or a relay. I have read that you just need the horn pad with cruise buttons and jump the wire that connects to the brake master and cruise should work..

Finally fixed cruise control. It turned out the the clutch interlock switch was not working right, it work for starting but did not have a good connection for cruise. All said adding cruise is really easy all that is needed is a cruise control horn pad and to jump the wires for the brake master cylinder, takes all of about five minutes to add cruise to an xl truck..

I am trying to get the cruise to work on my xlt 1997 and have chased down brake lights, trailer hook up and everything else i could think of trying to get it to work. Do you guys have any other suggestions? i Havent replaced the sensor on the brake booster, But it looks pretty new.
Also the dang 4x4 lights dont come on. 4x4 works great, but the indicator is out. pulled dash and replaced bulbs, also pulled the switch on tcase. switch was functional i guess and looked clean.
Any help would be much appreciated

Just thought I would let anybody who has a factory installed cruise control thats not functioning properly (and a manual trans) that I fixed mine by installing a hose clamp on the clutch safety switch. The switch was functioning properly, but the retainer clip that holds it to the master cylinder had come loose. the switch would still allow truck to start, but then hang up on the cylinder rod and not allow cruise.
