Default 1996 7.3 Fuel Canister Fuel Loss

My truck blew the # 22 fuse (30 amp) which controls the glow plug relay & the fuel heater located under the fuel filter inside the canister. After taking a piece of # 12 wire I put it in place of the fuse and turned ignition on which activated the glow plug relay elimating it as my problem. I then drained my fuel canister & removed the filter allowing me to access the fuel heater. You will find a black plastic tube that holds the filter in place. There is a 7/16 plastic nut formed on the bottom of the tube that can be removed with a crows foot. I used a pair of pliers and grabbed the tube turning it clockwise to loosen as it is not that tight. After removing the tube the fuel heater can be removed after disconnecting the wire which plugs inside the right side of the canister. The wire for the fuel heater ($79.00) had broken off the plate and shorted out causing my # 22 fuse to keep blowing. I then discovered sludge 1/2 thick under the plate after removing it. I change my filter every 20,000 miles. After cleaning all the sludge out I discovered pitted areas which once cleaned I found 4 holes in the bottom of canister. I closed my fuel relese valve and poured in a cup of diesel into canister ($375.00) and watched it drain onto engine from under canister. Anyone with a fuel leak in this area may want to take the time to remove the fuel heater and do a test check looking for holes. I am going to remove the canister to see if Ican repair these holes myself.

I goofed on the formed nut size for the black plastic tube & should of put 7/8 instead of 7/16. I have found a product that Harbor Freight carries that I believe will seal my holes in the fuel canister. They are aluminum rods that can be heated with a propane torch to seal holes.

thats why i went with a E-fuel set up and got rid of my fuel filter in the valley, less chance of leaks and more efficent.
