Default rear end change in new trucks???

i have an 01 f350 dually and i believe its a dana 80? i know its huge...anyways, my buddy said that they went to smaller rear end in 2010 or 2011. is this true??? my other buddy has an f450, 2011. he has had the rear end bearings go out twice in the last 5,000 miles and isn't very happy. i'd like to get a 2011 for my next truck, but really don't want the rear going out all the dang time!
