Well in that category, there's the very badly designed turbo, small intercooler system, high-flow EGR and the general lack of under-hood organization.

GM came up with the "exhaust in the valley" idea and Ford decided to rush it to market first, International dumped them and they needed something asap. Hopefully Ford's second generation of this engine will be better.
HAHAHA

That and the fact there are multiple cooling systems, the CAC is water cooled, theres barely any room under the hood, have had 2 failed turbos, 1 injector blown out of head, 3 F450s/550s needing complete engines with under 30k.

Customers thought it was bad downtime with a 6.4, HA, these things when you pull the turbo it dumps gallons of coolant down into the crank case (GREAT IDEA!) and tricky to take apart. Theyve over engineered these things no different than the 6.4 looks great on paper, but in real world... On FMCDealer we can look at other techs all across the country's posts and my dealership is no different, seeing mostly 450s and 550s dropping like flies and 250s/350s that are worked and worked hard maintained or not maintained. 1 dealership in california with 3 techs verifying 7 complete engines 2 short blocks and 3 being diaged with blown out injectors low compression finding glow plug tips missing injector tips missing etc.

btw, we have to give the customer the extra power via IDS PMI PCM reprogram with latest updates.

As with anything else the first one are always going to have problems! Maybe they can stick with one and work the bugs out of it instead of just trying to make more HP! Find the problems and fix that then move on to HP gains!
