well, mine is back at the dealer. second time since my first post. they changed the clutch fan. the truck still does the same thing as originally but is getting worse. the still can't figure it out. i found out that when this truck first went in, awhile ago, they found some sort of paper substance blocking the thermostats. the tech showed me the thermostats, he's never seen anything like it.

back at the dealer again. now the tech tells me that the oil cooler is clogged. when the oil temp got so hot, it supposedly melted the glue on the oil filter, which went to the cooler. also they have seen the oil gets so hot that it melts the standpipe in the oil filter housing. it's going to be another cab off repair. filter housing, flush the oil system, and new cooler. i don't understand how they can flush the system. i just want a new motor, i don't think it will ever be right.

i would push hard for a new one... that seems like alot of things could go wrong with that!

to properly flush the system would want the pan off to clean it out as well.

sound like the same thing i had with my 04 6.0... they kept changing the cam censer... then ford told them that there was something wrong with the cooling in the heads... cab off and they pulled the heads. motor was scorched so at 35k they put a new one in. i hope its not the same thing showing up with the 6.4

Hyper extended thermostats are causing lots of unknown overheating problems. Ford know about this. At times you will get codes, other times nothing. We've had numerous rad replacements, leaks,no leaks, gauges pinning over,LED overheat on dash. Reduction is power is constant during this condition but mainly during towing and under heavy load. Hope this helps. We've had these nightmares with our trucks for 2 years now.

Check out TSB 09-16-7. If all else fails you may need a re-calibration to cure the overheat and power loss problems.

Further sniffing around finds that TSB 9-18-15 supercedes 9-16-7. Re-calibration may still be required. Good luck.
