Default Bone Stock 6.4L

I'm new to the diesel world. I realize the name of the forum and the general opinions of mods. That being said, has anybody ever gotten 250-300k miles from a bone stock 6.4L without any Mods. I'm looking at a 2008 F-250 with the 6.4 with 112k miles. The family is wanting to get into camping and pulling a 5er. Right now, I can afford the truck, but wouldn't be able to drop the $1,000 to $2,000 for all the DPF, EGR and cat deletes. Should I be able to get a year or two of daily driving out of this truck, with proper maintenance, before I could do all the deletes? Thanks for any and all info.

A lot of 6.4's die an early life. The biggest cause of failure in these engines is fuel dilution due to the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration cycle.

Unfortunately, uncle sam has cracked down on the removal of the emissions components . . . which is the best way to eliminate the fuel dilution issues.

If you leave all that in tact, the absolute best thing you can spend your money on is changing the oil every 3k miles. I went 8k on my oil change (I run synthetic), and had an addition 3 quarts of oil (fuel) when I drained it!

Another option is to run a tuner that will leave your emissions components in tact, send me a PM, but I can hook you up with an affordable tuner and custom tune. We run a 400 hp tune on our shop truck (08 F450 w/4:30 gears) w/all emissions components in place and have seen 16mpg on the highway and only regenerate at 650-700 mile intervals (when running empty), the less you regenerate the less fuel dilution you will see.

Let me know if you have any questions . . . here is a link to how all this emission stuff works: Emissions & Emissions Equipment FAQ

I would stick with the 3K mile oil changes, synthetic then would be a waste. let that engine drain fully with the filter removed, calls for 15 quarts, well 14.5 . Keep on the lower edge of the fill mark on the dipstick allowing room for that exhaust stroke of fuel during the regen process.

Overfilling the oil can cause clogging in the EGR. Never overfill oil the engine oil can get exposed to crankshaft splashing resulting in air bubbles getting into the air. If you ever pull that dipstick out of a hot engine and see air bubbles that is not good. Air does not lubricate.

Running no tunes and getting 22mpg on the highway , 15mpg city.
