ATTN Another issue...

Well yesterday morning (65 degrees out) i walked outside to start the truck. The truck would crank for way too long, so i turn key off then back on, let glow plugs warm up then it cranks one good time and fires right up like nothings wrong, but the exhaust blows out whitish/grey smoke that smells like raw diesel fuel. It did this exact thing today also.

Is this something serious that i need to have checked, or could it be something simple like battery load problem?

***the whole computer was replaced less than 3000 miles ago, which i believe the FICM is part of the computer so it all was replaced with a brand new one.

Any ideas what could be causing this..?

Bad, sticky injector, Mine has been doing this for 2 years, I guess it is about time to change out my #8 injector that showed low on the scanner a while back. Also a bad ICP can do that but you should have it scanned when this happens.

So i should have the ICP scanned? How do i do that and what does ICP stand for?
Can leaving this problem alone cause any other damage?

ICP stands for injection control presure sensor, they can make it run rough and hard starting, you will have to find someone that can scan Fords and read the imputs. Auto enguinuity sells the cables and software that works with a laptop. Any shop that deals with diesels ought to be able to do it.

That would probably be stiction, happens when injectors are not warmed up. Scanning would help zero in on the problem

i recently read about adding rev-x to my oil. it is said that this stuff can clear up this problem completely. has anyone tried it, or have experience with it?

i cant be asked to pay 65.00 for 8 oz of this stuff if it doesnt work, or will damage my truck

the stuff is truly amazing, you can instantly hear the difference when you put it in, it is more of a bandaid fix, not a permanant fix, but a very good bandaid. it does not hurt to use it . use 8oz with a fresh oil change then use 4oz every change after that. still alot cheaper than replacing the sticking injectors.

Rev x does work but as stated is just a band aid. Do you have a scanner or edge insight? Being able to check what your ficm voltae battery voltage and icp pressure would let you know what is wrong with it. How much smoke are we talking? A puff or a continuos cloud?

Your "computer".... we need more clarification on exactly what was replaced. Typically the PCM is what is referred to as the computer. The FICM is not the PCM, they are two separate things.

I'd test the FICM myself, only takes a few minutes...
