You should hear the pitch change from the turbo.
No I haven't got any codes... I checked the ebp tube and it was clogged so I cleaned it out... And the sensor... But from what I understand my stradegy doesn't use it... When I cleaned the turbo I forgot to plug the maf back in and man did that turbo scream!!! Where is the map sensor located?

We know the map sensor is hooked up otherwise he wouldn't have a boost reading. Do you have the stock intake elbow on the truck, if you do those butterrflys on the 04s can stick and limit the airflow, you can eliminate the 2 piece design and just use a stock 04-07 intake elbo, they are taller and flow better than the 2 piece 04s

I would think if the butterfly was stuck closed he would show a higher than normal boost? Couldnt hurt to look. He said his boost is low, but he has no codes so we are kind of guessing here. I was going with the basics,
Check air filter: restricted air=restricted boost
Check the input sources: EBP, EBP tube, MAP, MAP tube and MAF. Free to check and clean.
He has said he checked the CAC tubes and boots and he said he didnt have exhaust leaks.
He also cleaned the turbo. I would go back and recheck those items as well, especially the boots. I dont remember if he looked at the VGT actuator, recheck that conection as well.

Lets remember that the MAP pickup point is on the intake after the intake elbo so if it were sticking closed it would show low boost even though the presure from the turbo to intake elbow could be 36psi but with a restriction like a stuck butterfly there could be a loss of presure because the motor is still sucking air from the otherside of the intake elbow/butterfly. My truck is an early 04 and I had an empty butterfly housing from the factory, it was just a dummy piece, I know the later 04s used them though, do we know if this is an early or late 04??????

I know what you are saying, I just figured if it was stuck closed I doubt he could get out of the driveway let alone get up to highway speed towing a trailer. I thought the butterfly valve was an early thing, 03early04 then they did away with it. I guess he would have to pull the elbow and take a look.

I was also wondering if he should run the VGT relearn procedure on this......its free too.

ok if your talking about the intake elbow that conects on the top front of the intake manifold? were the intercooler pipe ataches too on the drivers side? mine is hollow and has no butterfly vavle...

i havent pulled the up pipe and y pipe to check for leaks i just looked in there with a mirror and didnt see any carbon...and i cant hear it leak, i would imagine you would hear it hissing...

how do i go about doing the vgt relearn? maybe the unison ring was too pitted and not letting the vains open? but i got it pretty clean without grinding away any surface...

if i take off from a light probilly half throttle, it doesnt start building boost until i hit 15-20 mph and the egts are pretty high... im compaping the egts to my friends 2006 6.0

stock to stock, my buddies will be 100 yards ahead of me if we took off at same time at a light...

i wished one of you guys were closer id drive it to ya to take a look so you know what i mean...

Can't you cycle the turbo with the AE to see if it is working properly??

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Also if you had an uppipe leaking you would generally hear it and alot of times the exhaust would burn your eyes when looking around under the hood.

yes you can cycle the turbo with the AE and it does change pitch... so the vains are moving but i dont think they are moving properly...

ranchhand- it is a srw not a dully...

i have been doing research and for my setup i should be getting around 13-15 city...

i got to do some more looking around on the truck to see what i can find...

im just curious as to why when i unplug the map ( on the air filter intake) it whistles pretty loud... would it hurt to drive it like that to see what my boost number would be?

thats the MAF sensor, then the if it wisles like you say then I would think turbo is OK, I don't think it is a good idea to drive without it. I think I would almost be at the point where I would take the intercooler out and have it presure tested to eliminate that as a problem.
