Default need help

my truck has headstuds, mbrp 4 inch turbo back, egr delete, edge juice with attitude. sometimes it idles rough and with high idle choppy. and cut out like running out of fuel. i changed oil and fuel filters and it ran perfect for a month. used rotella oil motorcraft filters. i had a power balance ran at ford came back good and they replaced icp. which i still get a code from my ae for volts to high value. ford said its the edge. oh has tuned ficm acorriding to ford. today it wouldnt start just fired died fired died fired ran rough for bit stalled. anyway when it decided to run it would idle but built no boost and bucked and surged when hit 1000-1500 rpm turbo whistles when running. i have some data from ae this morning i can post for icp v icp presure icp desired ipr % and fuel pump % and i can hook it up for other params at request because when i parked it was still acting up

How old are the batteries, and have they been load tested at all?

I would test the FICM as well.

A tuned FICM will cause the ICP readings to be off, but I can't imagine it throwing a code for that. I would check with the tuner on that myself. I wonder how Ford knows it's a tuned FICM?

Any idea what fuel pressure is?

Have you monitored the ICP readings at all?

I just saw your thread on PSA and answered over there. Your readings tell me the IPR is bad/stuck. I'd pull that and inspect it. If the screen is torn or something, just replace the whole thing. Definitely sounds bad to me.

so the ipr has been replaced and icp and the problem continues. no rev when floored no boost when driving under conditions wont rev past 1500 and high egts. also got hard to start and cranks forever then starts puffing grey smoke and eventually lits with a cloud of black smoke

So when you first start cranking it, is there any smoke? Could be a low or high pressure oil problem...

The only times I've seen actual higher than desired is when the IPR is malfunctioning. Did these problems arise right after you did some work to the truck or did they come out of the blue? I've heard of guys having to replace one or two IPR's after doing some high pressure oil pump swaps.

Seem to have come out of blue. Truck doesn't smoke right away when crankin. I'm wondering if they put an 03 04 ipr instead of a 04.5 up. Since my truck has icp on valve cover. Also pours black smoke when icp is unplugged

also after sitting two weeks it wouldnt start for min or two and i swore to get rid of it and she lit. go figure and that was after ipr was replace

Sounds like it may be a high pressure oil problem, or possibly even a low pressure. When you're cranking and not getting smoke right away, does the oil pressure gauge on the dash come up at all? Do you start getting smoke just as that is coming up? Might have an issue with oil here.

When's the last time the oil was changed? What oil was used and what oil filter was used?

Last time fuel filters were changed, and what filters?

Are you able to check fuel pressure too? Get a cheap gauge from harbor freight, hook it up to the fuel bowl, run it out under the back of the hood and put it on the windshield, hold it down with the wiper so you can see it.

Do you have a receipt for the IPR they put in, we can cross check the P/N's...
