Default 04 oil cooler

Ok so I'm getting ready to just do a oil cooler change bc my temps are starting to get around 9* difference running empty... I was wondering what all I would need (gaskets, special tools) I think I'm going to get a new oil cooler from tousley. But I hear that I can just do a rebuild kit? And I was wondering what else I should do while I'm in there? Thanks in advanced for the info and help guys! Oh and I am going to get a coolant filter from MkM. And I read that I should put the filter on and run it then do the coolant flush?

You can put the filter on at any time, that shouldn't really matter... though I'd think after the flush would save you from changing the filter so soon. It's just a filter though, certainly wont hurt anything having it there, that's for sure.

You can order just the oil cooler rebuild kit yes, it's ~$230 from Tousley. That comes with a bunch of gaskets/o-rings for the cooler and other things, and also a new updated HPOP oil screen. On your 04, I would go ahead and replace the ICP and pig tail if it hasn't ever been done, while you're back there.

How many miles on your rig? Has the HPOP ever been replaced?

Well I'm pretty sure it's a early 04 tag say 07/03 don't know if that changes anything? I'm not sure if the hpop has been done yet... It has 150,000 miles on it... I can't get ahold of the original owner to see what has been done... My local ford dealer keeps giving me the go around on getting a oasis report. And as usual I can't decide where to put my money into the truck since I don't know what's been done it sucks bc I don't want to spend all this money and it's already been done... Thanks for the help!!!

If it had not been done yet, I'd suggest replacing it now, since the 03 HPOPs were notoriously bad, but hard to say. I know there is a few guys on here that can get Oasis reports done too, maybe one will chime in.

How many O3 or early 04 pumps do we know went bad, I have 250k on my pump, only replaced my ICP once, I thought the notorius pumps were the 05s SCT fitting?????when these pumps go bad is it catastrofic or do they die slowly??

Little clarification here, please. When you do a "rebuild" on the oil cooler, you're just changing external o-rings and stuff, correct? But isn't the issue that is gets clogged up and needs to be cleaned/flushed/etc? I'd hate to tell someone that gaskets and o-rings will help when it is a flow issue. Or maybe I'm smoking crack again and o-rings will help, I don't know. That's why I am here.

Also, 9* delta isn't anything to worry about is it? I thought it was 20~25* that you should be chaning/cleaning stuff.

03 was the worst. The whole pump design stunk. I forget exactly what happens with them, but typically they die a slow death too, not a run or not running condition like with the STC fitting's typically. The STC fitting was just a simple fitting on the HPOP, not the HPOP itself. I know of a few 03's that had issues. Heck, Josh Gordon on here, who just registered a few weeks ago and lives near me (I just fixed a FICM for him) had his replaced because of it causing the truck to run very poorly. He said the new pump made it feel like a stock truck vs. a tuned truck. I'd say you're very lucky with yours at that mileage! They die slowly to answer your question.

The rebuild comes with all new internals brother. Not just gaskets.

Ok so I should just go ahead and replace the oil pump while I'm in there?
And I submitted a thread earlier about turbo parts... Do they sell the seals and upgrades at international?

So replace oil cooler with rebuild from tousley
Replace icp and pig tail
Replace hpop
Coolant filter instal with coolant flush

You shouldn't need any of those turbo parts really. For the most part everything is reusable. Maybe the o-rings for the drain, but you could always just get the updated turbo feed and drain line too.

If you arent seeing any signs of a bad HPOP I would not change it out right now but thats just me. Also I know of quite a few people that have had trouble trying to get anything from international for out trucks due to the fallout between them and ford so youll have to call your local and see if they are willing to deal.
