so you said this kit was for a 99-07. im looking at a 97. would really like to get something like this going. ill be using this mainly as a tow rig. but if it looks like this is a viable DD like your are making it out to be it will prob. end up being a DD.

i read (i think it was yours) a thread about this and the system you used. to filter the oil. at first i thought it was for a bio set up. if it shows you where im starting out in what i know, i didnt know you could just run veggie. it sounds like more of a sustainable set up than the bio,. there is a little more into what your truck needs to be modded, from what i understand the bio set up is just a pour and go. but the chemical mixing washing mixing setup seems more in debth.

anyway im going to go check out this link.

i keep hearing that there are different qualities in oil. im guessing the more its used the harder its going to be to filter. are there any suggestions on where to start trying to get the oil. most chain fast food joints out here sell theirs to a dog food plant. ive been told that i need to look at donut shops? have you heard if one type of food joint is better than another?

also i was told by a guy that brews bio that different restaurants use different oils and they have different gel temps? any insight on what to look for here?

one more thing..... if you were out looking to get a used rig to set this up on, what would you look for? i realize im not going to find a "low millage" 97f350. but do i need to set a millage cap or does it really effect it? should i just look for a newer rig? ive also heard some issues with the 6L should i stick with the 7.3? being in the shopping process, i want to know what im going to have as an end goal, so i can get the best set up for what i need.

thanks again

It is designed to be a turn-key simple install for 99-07 but we have a few members on the veggie forum using them on 95-97 powerstrokes. Those trucks are converted to use the superduty electric fuel pumps on the diesel side of things however, that is really the only added step. Join the www.biofuelstehnologies.com forum and read there, I think two new members did conversions on the 95-97 trucks this past summer and documented very well.

Nope, mine is just for filtering oil only. You can run veggie only, but need to build the truck do it (ie, vegistroke or other DIY two tank heated setup). Bio is pour and go, except in cold weather you can't "go"... you could also burn bio in the vegistroke if you so chose. The filtering and making of the fuel is more intense with bio. Bio you build the fuel for the truck, veggie you build the truck for the fuel, make sense?

Oil collection is a HUGE eye opener... at first, it's going to make you not want to ever eat fried foods again. I didn't eat donuts for a long time after I got into this game. Funny story... you can't collect oil from donut shops, guess why.... Anyone want to take a guess??? It's because the donuts absorb ALL of the oil they're being cooked in. There is no left over oil brother. Check out the local diners, the mom and pop shops man. Typically the chains will have good oil, IF you can get in with them, but it's tough. Chinese restaurants have some of the best man. Any place that changes more often will have better oil (and better food when you eat there) You'll quickly learn which places use oil beyond it's limits and you'll start noticing it in their food quality too.

also i was told by a guy that brews bio that different restaurants use different oils and they have different gel temps? any insight on what to look for here?

This is correct. For the most part all the oil is about the same. The big difference is PHO oil, or what is called "partially hydrogenated oil" which is unusable in bio applications, since it essentially turns to a solid block of oil at fairly warm temps (like 50* on a basement floor would turn this stuff solid). Good news for us... the vegistroke burns this stuff like nothing. Since it's heated, it' thins it right out. I typically try to avoid using it in the winter months, since it just takes a little longer to thin. I save it for summer use and usually just mix it in with some other non PHO oil, but it will burn it for sure.

That's your call man, there are pro-con for each. There is a lengthy thread about the 7.3 vs. 6.0 debate on the vegistroke forum if you want to read people's opinions.

thanks again
