Default Do I really need a new turbo?

Ok, so I have a chance to buy a new Garrett Powermax turbo for $1000 or maybe a little less. My question is do I really want/need to right now? I have 82k on my 6.0 and it seems to be runnin fine. I do plan on eventually getting a SCT tunner, then larger injectors, head gaskets and studs when needed and who knows what else. I don't plan on racing my truck, but if I feel the need, I would like to be able to smash the skinny peddle and be forced to sit back in the seat a little! So, again, with all that in mind, do I really need a new/upgraded turbo? Or maybe I should say do I need it now or can it wait? This is just a good price, I think, but I could put the money elsewhere in the truck if I really don't need the turbo. (From what I've seen on you tube, they sure sound good though)!

They're like $1100 shipped brand new... it's not the deal of a lifetime so you don't NEED it now.

What are your future plans? Injector size? Performance numbers? How will you use the truck?

A Batmowheel is $400, if you don't already know, it's a replacement for the OEM compressor (cold side) that makes BIG torque numbers. I haven't heard anything bad about them yet. I plan on getting one.

Wow i want one of those batmowheels its like double hp for only 400 dollars! This sounds too good to be true are there any draw backs to it?

Nvm not double your hp haha I read it wrong. Still impressive gains for 400 though

I didn't think it was THAT great of a deal either, so thanks for the reply. Guess I'll wait on that one. As far as future mods, I am open for sugestions. The truck is a daily driver, but I wouldn't mind being able to give my friend's Duramax or my son's Cummins a run for their money! This is all new terratory for me. I plan on an SCT tunner next and taking of my cat. Other than that I really don't know where I would get the best bang for my buck.

You can get batmowheels for the powermax turbo's now too guys.

Dreamer, we can certainly help you spend your money man. We just need to know what exactly you use your truck for (daily driver I'm guessing? Do you tow at all with it, if so how much weight? What's your budget, and what's your HP goals?).

It is / will be a daily driver and on occasion haul a gooseneck with farm equipment or horses. As far as horsepower, I don't know. My friend says he is getting 530hp & 915rwt off a dyno with his Duramax. I'll never race him but those numbers sure sound nice! In reality though, I'd just like a little more kick in the seat of my pants when I mash the peddle. My budget doesn't exist, as in I have no funds , so anything I spend I need to save up for.

I have a gooseneck w/ two 10k axles. I don't think I've ever had more than 14k loaded on it. So that weight plus the trailer weight. Not sure what it weighs. That is the heaviest trailer. Our bumber pulls are just for horses or our dirt toys. Not much weight there.

You'll have to be pretty careful with injector/turbo selection towing that much weight. It can get hot quick.

D-maxes are way easier to squeeze power out of. Our heads simply don't flow the air they do. Which is why you can get 800hp out of a d-max with a 66mm charger, yet we are lucky to get 600hp with the same charger. This is also why Ford's always do very well with nitrous, making up for the lack of airflow.
