Disconnect yourself from the fact that this is a diesel and get back to basics. If I buy a long block crate engine and stuff it into my 67 Mustang using all of the other bolt ons that were in the 67 to begin with (Victor Jr, MSD, 110 amp alt, etc) and it didn't run right, I wouldn't be wondering about the whether the long block was compatible or not, I'd be wondering what I hooked up to it wrong. However, I do think it was a REAL good question to ask what the condition of the in going motor was, though.

That being said, I am confused, if the butterfly was a one year 2004 only item, wouldn't the wiring harness in the 2007 have been rearranged to delete this? Like Mdub said, that sounds like a bolt on item. One of two things happened, you got a hold of a bad motor, it wasn't installed 100% right. I am not knocking your mech, there are a LOT of subsystems to install, any of them could have been missed/crossed.

The butterfly is in normally open mode, when the egr activates the butterfly would close partially to promote egr flow, I had both the egr and butterfly unplugged from mine for a year or so until I replaced with a 05 CFM intake elbow.
Is there a sensor on the pass side valve cover just behind the glowplug module that is on the very front of valve cover?

can you clarify very little power? is it off idle or all the way through the range?

Not sure if the 03 has it or not but if you do the answer would be yes, remove it and the short elbow and install the taller 05 and up elbow, the 03-04 short elbow is very restrictive. yhe factory pipe will line up with the taller elbow once you remove both parts of the early setup

As far as I know all 03 and early 04's have this. I just went and checked out Josh Gordon's truck this past weekend for FICM issues. He's got an 03 and it definitely had that restrictive intake elbow on it.

Granted mine is an early 2003, but there was no funky butterfly in the elbow when I put on the Banks Techni-Cooler and Hi Ram. Just a big ol honkin hole to the intake plenum.

Maybe you guys just had that style intake elbow with the actual valve? Maybe only early 04's had the valve then? I'm not sure now.

My truck is an early 04 and I had the butterfly housing but it was empty, no electronics and no butterfly in it, Karl when you removed intake elbow was it one piece or 2, if it was 2 then you had the same thing as me.

One piece elbow.

But back to the point. This is all academic if the only 04 part of this swap was the long block. A long block is heads and bottom end, no intake, no accessories, no turbo, nothing. That being said it shouldn't have had the butterfly elbow and could be an install issue. If it did have the 04 elbow, the OP's perception of a long block is different than ours is.

I'll say it again, if this butterfly was a one year only deal and did end up under the hood in the swap, I seriously doubt the 07 wiring harness would have the connector to make it work. Further its an F550, don't those rigs have looser emissions requirements than 250s and 350s making the butterfly n/a? Also, is the HPOP the same from 04-07?

Where's rbpower? We need beers and some clarification here!
