Default rough idle, no power when in drive

Hi guys, I am asking for help please. I have 2004 f350 diesel. All was great with no problems 80,000. Got up to got to work and when it started it sounded rough, maybe a little knock, also the idle was low. Give it gas it revs up, although not typical response time a little slow, kinda sounds ok. Put it in drive and nothing just a slow roll with no response to pedal. Put it in reverse, again slow roll with no response to pedal. I thought i was out of gas. Put some in and also drained the water separator and still the same. I am going to replace the fuel filters tomorrow. Could it be anything else. Any of your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey Luke, Ok i changed the fuel filters this morning. The one under the drivers rail was really dirty. I started it up and it idle better. I was able to take it around the block a couple of times. It definitely did not have full power. Its idling around 600rpm, but it is not stuttering like before. Now the check engine light finally came on. I will check the FICM voltage next. Thank You

When's the last time the oil/filters were changed? Definitely pull the codes and let us know what they are. Is it smoking at all when it gets running? Does it start hard, or just fire normal and then idle rough?

hey guys, I don't have a scanner. I will buy one if I have to today. I will check the ficm later today after work. I do believe it was replaced at the dealer under the recall and another time when the couldn't figure out s problem.
Funny thing about the oil filter and oil. It way over due, time have been tough and its been about 8000 miles at least since last change. Maybe pennies more.It does not smoke when running. Its not a real bad start but its not like it used to be.

Also since I changed the fuel filters yesterday, its idling ok just seems low. Also i read in a earlier post something about batteries. They are the originals 04. The day this all started it was cold outside in the morning. COuld it be possible that the batteries are dying and causing a low volt to the Ficm and making it act irregularly? I bought oil and filter and will be replacing today as well. Thanks again for all your Help.

Yes it's very possible. These trucks run like poo with bad batteries. Get them load tested at an auto parts store. If one is bad, replace both. I bet that is part of your problem right there...
Don't even bother checking the FICM until you get the batteries tested.

ok just changed the oil and filter. Now it wont start. Batteries defiantly weak. Both batteries have crud on the positive terminal. Even tried with a jump from my bronco. Gauges went crazy and then barely cranked. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a slow crank after just leaving the hazards on. I am on way to get new batteries now. Just checked too I had a extended warranty. It expired 10/4/11. Unbelievable.

Nice! I bet that will cure almost all, if not all of your issues.
