Default Egr problems

Hi to all just purchased my first diesel and first ford had it about a week and a half and I was at work went to lunch and noticed a little white smoke at low temps once warmed up it was fine I got home that evening checked all fluids and air filter And all noticed one of the battery's both cables where so lose about to fall off so tightened them all back up waited a few hours for it to cool off again started it let it warm up 5-10 min as I have been doing took it for a drive no smoke started easier and smoother thought it was all good headed to work the next morning all good almost to work went up a hill and noticed I was having to give it more throttle but still slowin down pulled over idles fine but won't pull itself now the smoke is bad. So I parked it and ordered sinister egr delete should be here this afternoon. Is there anything else I can do while I'm in there? Any precautions to take? I plan to cut out the exhaust muffler and add a cold air intake and arb headstuds before long. Should I replace the oil cooler while I'm doing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

That's a whole lot of questions to throw at us at once!

First things first, your white smoke... does it smell sweet like coolant, or does it burn your eyes a little like fuel? Find that out first before going further.

Does the truck start easy?

There are things I'd recommend doing while you are doing the EGR delete yes, but if you're going to pull the cab in the next month or so for studs, then I'd wait til then... I guess we need to know more about your plans before we can really answer this stuff.

What are your plans for the truck? Grocery getter? Daily driver? towing a lot, not at all, race truck, dirt puller, what?

How much money you want to sink into this...

If it's a fun truck, how much power realistically do you think you want to make.

Before you hack your exhaust up, you can get replacement straight pipe pieces for the cat and muffler for about $100. You can also get 4" full turbo backs for about $265. Just food for thought.

Give us some more info here and we can point you in the right direction. How many miles on this hog? Have you had an oasis report done?

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new truck!

Well my sence of smell wasn't great that day but I know it burnt my nose pretty good but almost smelled sweet ill check it out again in a bit. And yes the truck fires right up and idles fine when I go to give it the petal it starts idling rough and won't pull it's self. Back to idle then idles smooth again. The studs will be a while it's a daily driver light towing. All I ever plan to do is cold air intake, the egr delete, fuel spring mod, and head bolts in the future and as of now have a dioblo sport Peadator programmer and will probably be looking at the mbrp exhaust in the future the straight pipe was going to be a temp deal 188k on the truck. Previous owner bought it off the lot has had all the maintenance done at the dealer with recalls and the new update flashes. And on the oasis report no I may not even have heard of it

Get rid of the diablo sport. We used to call those "pukinators." Not only would a higher horsepower custom tune on an SCT be safer for your motor, and faster, it will also save your trans from certain death with the Diablo. Rant over.

You might want to just pull the EGR valve and give it a good cleaning to start with, I've seen very similar symptoms to this.

Oasis is just a "report" from the dealership that shows all of the warranty work done at Ford for that truck, based off of the VIN. It can tell you a lot about the history of a truck. Might be worth looking into.

Yes defiantly will be getting oasis report thanks for that. The dioblo was a cheap starter deal. I would like to get the sct what one is the better one they make? Can you get a monitor for in the cab with a sct? Or know anyone with one for sale? And I'm about halfway through the egr delete install.

EGR delete successful. haven't noticed all too much in the performance field but mpg's still going up already up almost 2 mpg's. What do you think of the sct livewire?

I didn't notice any all out performance, but throttle response seemed slightly improved with mine, and it seems to cool the EGT's off faster when I park too.

SCT livewire is a good choice. The real popular setup now is the SCT handheld units like an X-cal 3 and an Edge CTS monitor. More expensive that route, but the CTS is really nice looking. The livewire should be just fine though. Don't forget you need to get the pyro probe on top of the cost of the livewire, they don't come with one.

I was looking at the x-3 but then saw a deal online that was a whole kit with the pyro probe, monitor, tuner, Window mount and USB cables and all for about 560. ? And where would be the best location for the probe? I've heard there is approx 300 degrees between locations

If you buy an SCT at all, buy it from one of the tuners, since they will give you the tunes for free when you buy from them. If you don't do it that way you'll end up spending more even though you save on the initial purchase. 3 tunes could cost you more than $150...

Just call up Innovative and buy from them, I think that would be your best bet.

I mounted mine in my drivers side exhaust manifold right towards the bend, you can see it in the pic here:

Ideally you don't want it right in line with a port, it could throw off the temps, but you want it so it's reading all cylinders...
