Fuel pressure regulator Oring is probably shot and your leaking fuel in the engine compartment. Just had that fixed on my truck a few months ago. But the fuel smell was coming in on all settings. Pop your hood and inspect the regulator for leaks. I think the O Ring is about $10 at Ford.

I wouldn't count on it being that. It's not that common on 6.0's, more so on 7.3's. Still a possibility, but I highly doubt it. If you pop the hood, look where the fuel filter bowl is on top of the motor. On the front of the bowl pointing more towards the drivers side is the fuel pressure regulator housing. Just look to see if it looks like it's leaking there.

I would be checking the up-pipes myself. I know you said your turbo was having issues spooling quick too.

I guess the better question to ask is, does it smell like raw fuel, or burnt exhaust fumes?

Like Mdub said, it is most likely the up pipes, do the fumes burn your eyes,if so it is exhaust, kind of a common problem .

i have been having the same thing... not burning my eyes but deffinetly exhaust smoke. i read on the tsb's there was an issue with early 6.0's driverside uppipe the expansion joint tends to tear or wear out... allowing a small amount of fumes out. all i need to know now is how easy is it to replace... i purchased a new pipe... just wondering if this is a cab off thing or just a tight wiggle....

Cab on for sure, but it's a PITA to get that out of there. It's a good time to do an EGR delete if you don't have one.

Yeah and what he said, also do the SCT fitting upgrade while your there, 05s are notorious for them failing on the HPOP, doesn't cost but maybe 50 bucks but it will save you in the long run.
