Default Fuel Pressure Fluctuation

My Fuel Pressure is all over the place bounces a lot around 50-55 but sometimes hits 60. If i lay into her real good i can get it down to 42. Ive heard under 45 is a no go and im about to put 90hp injectors in tomorrow. Im thinking my problem is going to really going to come out then. The last thing i want to do is run these injectors without enough fuel. What could cause it to bounce like this? I heard there is a spring that i can replace with a stiffer one that will boost my pressure?? Any insight?

My main diesel guy says its because of the two bad injectors i have...... which is a good possibility.

Bad injectors aren't going to make your fuel pressure fluctuate. The fluctuation is normal, this happens. You're right, below 45 is bad. You can get the new spring from Ford or International, I have the PN for the whole kit if you want from Ford, but if you search around a bit you can find the PN for just the spring from International. Which fuel filters are you using? OEM? The new style or old?

What are you doing for a fuel system with these injectors, and who's injectors are you going with? You will not be able to run the stock fuel pump to supply nearly any injector.

Well, i ordered them through Diesel Addiction in Wilmington, NC. They are RCD's which is all they use. Said they have been putting them in a lot of trucks and havent had a problem. As for not having enough fuel to support the Injectors......... RCD must have misinformed me. They told me with those injectors i would be FINE on a stock fuel system. Looks like im floating up S*** Creek without a paddle huh

Yeah, I've also heard more bad than good about their injectors too, but they may have since changed some things around. How much were they? If they're not more than $3500, then they're using old injectors, which may or may not have stiction.

Anyways, you'll definitely want at least an airdog 2 and some upgraded banjos. What does a 90hp injector equate to in CC's? Is that like a 155?

Also you 90% more than likely have the new style fuel filters, which have an extruded piece with an o-ring on the frame mounted filter, it is there to eliminate ANYTHING getting up to the next filter, the old ones were not like this. The new ones also mean less fuel pressure, thus Ford coming out with this updated spring kit... would have been nice if they just told customers this, instead of letting us figure it out on our own.

I'm running the OLD style filters, with the updated spring, with a brand new OEM pump, and I still can't maintain pressure on hot tunes...

alright, i got one side of injectors out tonight.... ran out of daylight. They were 2,600 before core charge. I know they are remans but the Diesel Addiction guys are good guys and made $0 off the transaction. They told me their honest opinion about them and sent me on my way. Im not quite sure what 90hp equate to. I told them i wanted the biggest i could go on stock fuel system. If i would of known i needed a airdog i would of went bigger! Im going to put them on and check fuel pressure as i tool around. If its scary then i wont drive it at all. If i have to keep it under 2000rpms for the time being then ill have to deal with it.

And the banjo bolts are the bolts on the fuel line going into the block correct??? And stock fuel lines are going to be sufficient after this?

They might work for you, but again, I'd hate to see you go through all that trouble just to have to pull them again. I guess if I was in your shoes, I'd just go ahead and install them too haha.

You were already having fuel pressure issues with stock sticks, I'd venture to guess you're going to have problems with these too.

To answer your last two questions, yes and yes.

Looking at RCD's website, their injector selection is confusig as all hell... http://www.rivercitydiesel.com/index...d=37&Itemid=54

I did notice that they do offer "new injectors" now, and "modifcation injectors" which basically means you got the modification ones. They basically take 8 used injectors from a customer and build them into larger ones. Where the new ones are someone going to Ford, buying 8 injectors, then sending them to RCD to be built. More money, but it's new injectors and there have been floods of issues using the old style "modification" injectors. Most top builders, wont even do the modification route anymore, they do NEW only. Anyways, you can see they at least offer both options... http://www.rivercitydiesel.com/index...d=25&Itemid=54

And you better be posting pics like you did for headstuds! Why didn't you do these at the same time again? seems like I did read that earlier today from you and there was a legit reason...

Well, i didnt have the cash to spot the core charge. (Spent all my money on other goodies haha) so i had to wait until i got back from GA to take mine out, run them up there and swap out. Its not been too difficult seeing how 3 days ago i was already in there but how close the passenger side valve cover is to the a/c is just being a pain in my ****. driver side should be easier i assume. Draining the coolant because i finally found some gold so i can take the resivore (not spelled correct haha) off and get back there without smashing my hands. I understand that remans arent as nice as NEW but ive been spending a lot on the truck lately and i told myself either im replacing just the two that went out with stock or remans......... and 90hp sounded a lot better haha.

Upcoming projects are SCT Programer, Coolant Bypass Filter, Black Wheels, Window Tint...... o yea almost forgot, sooner than later Air Dog 2 and Banjo Bolts haha

Im about to post the rest of my pics of the headstuds and stuff. Let me know what you think of my zoodad mod. Did it a little different than everyone else.

So right now you DON'T have the SCT? I wouldn't even put those injectors in until I had the SCT, you're going to kill your trans. You really need the tuning to match those sticks bud.

Be careful with it! You and I both KNOW you're going to romp on it a couple times... who are you trying to kid? I'd do the same thing. Thus why I suggested not even putting them in. I wouldn't have enough self control to not run her! Good luck brotha!!!

Get the SCT as soon as you can!

Sticking with stock turbo for now?
