Default maybe new owner of six.0

so im looking at trading my 7.3 on a 0six 4door short bed 4x4 auto six.0, he wants 13,800 for it, with arp head studs and egr delete on it, and was wondering what the pros and cons of doing this is, and what else is needed, im keeping the gauges out of my current truck

that sounds like a good price to me. i gave 16,000 for mine. i dont know what head studs cost but i know the egr delete is about $1000 for parts and labor unless you have a cheap mechaninc. depending on how many miles is on it, i would plan on new injectors in the near future. that'll run ya $1000+. i love my 6.0 even though it needs some work. its way better than what i had. as far as 7.3 vs 6.0, i've heard and read equal amount of complaints about both. no matter what engine you buy there's always gonna be somebody bitchin' about it so get what YOU like. that's just my 2 cents...

head studs are done and so is the egr delete, but i dint but other than that is there any other problems with them?? i believe this guy has already put new injectors in em. i love my 7.3 but its just starting to break, in 2 years ive replaced; trans, transfer case, hpop fuel bowl, ipr, icp, cps, orings on hpop 3times, fuel line, alternator, and now it wont start due to sucking air at fuel bowl

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

how can you tell if the egr has been deleted??

just pop the hood and see if there's an egr valve there. it will be right next to the fuel filter which is right on top of the engine. the valve should be just to the left with a wire plugged into it. its about the size of a soup can. if there's not one there, then it probably has the delete kit installed or, someone needed it worse than you and stole it

If it runs rough when its cold, buy rev-x to put in the oil.

Definitely install an HPOP gauge, as said in the previous thread a remote (in-front of the radiator) mount oil cooler is the best way to go and eliminate the very tiny passages for the coolant to flow through, however if you don't have the funds for it (about $1600) then do the coolant filter. Here is the one that I have.

6.0L Powerstroke Diesel Coolant Filter Kit Sinister Diesel

Only $140 and about a 15 minutes install (if that) and WELL worth the money spent. If you want you can buy all the filters you will need before you get everything installed and keep them on the shelf, not difficult to find, I think just about every parts store has coolant filters. Figure 4 in the first year, the product says every 3 months but I know there is a lot of junk in that coolant so I changed the first 1 after 30 days, 2nd after 90 days and the 3rd after 6 months then it is once a year after that. You can change the coolant when you install or a little down the road (I flushed the coolant when I did the 6 month filter) if you are like me and want to cut them open just to visually see how well they work. Plus if you like blue then it really adds a nice touch of color to your engine bay. Lol.

Make sure it has the headstuds and egr cooler delete. Even with the cooler delete sometimes guys will leave the valve in there to keep the check engine light coming on, this is ok, so if you see the valve, don't fret. Just make sure the cooler itself is gone, and there is a solid up-pipe in the back. Headstuds you can see just by popping the hood.

I would agree, get the coolant filter ASAP, and if you plan on getting a programmer get a bunch of gauges. Search here, this has all been answered already, but basically you'll want fuel pressure, EOT, ECT, and maybe pyro/EGT if running a tuner. A 4" turboback exhaust is a good upgrade too and will help keep EGT's down. HPOP gauge is kind of useless IMO, all it's going to tell you is when it stops working, but so will the truck, since it wont run anymore, but that's just my opinion, others run it and are happy with it.

Madcreekfarm - when's the last time you priced a set of injectors from Ford? $1000 aint gonna touch it.

Cold air intakes are crap for the 6.0. To MY knowledge there is not an aftermarket intake on the market for the 6.0 that has the air flow/filtering ratio that the stock intake does, some have better flow but they don't have the filtering and some have amazing filtering but don't have the flow. Other than than it sounds like a good deal of a truck.
