So I know I need new batteries, they have been going for sometime. I have noticed it seems like the truck is cranking slowly, and starting a bit harder when it's cold. I'm aware of how to test the FICM, and intend to do so this weekend. My question is, if bad batteries can kill your FICM can a bad FICM in turn damage your batteries?

If so, I wait till I can get a 58v FICM in and just drive it as little as possible...

Also, looking for battery preferences from y'all. Curious what everyones preferences are!

NO the FICM can not damage the batteries. But be assured, low voltage will damage the FICM. This an expensive repair.

After much research, I chose the NAPA GOLD Heavy Duty.

there are only a few battery manufacturers, most get brand labled.

 

It sure as heck is! My '06 F550 just got one, and a few injectors. Batterys are perfectly fine in the truck, it was just its time.

FICM was $1000, with a $250 core. Plus it took out #6, $650, with $150 core. Add labor and diagnostics, the bill was $2600.

 

Screw that, I'd do it myself. I got new batteries in it, I am going to check the FICM tomorrow. In retrospect, I can't believe how bad the old batteries were, it's cranking way faster with the new ones...probably should've swapped 'em a lot sooner!

Most guys just get the wal-mart batteries, they're not very expensive, they have a lifetime warranty, and when you're broke down in the middle of night, it's usually not too hard to find a 24 hr wal-mart. As much as I hate wal-mart....

You can also do optima's pretty cheap if you become a member of the NHRDA. When you sign up I think it's like $40 for the membership, which gets you a t-shirt, some stickers, a 1-year subscription to diesel power mag, and a SUPER discount on Optimas! I remember saying to myself if I needed batteries I was signing up and paying the $40 because even then it was still cheaper for the batteries.
