Default Trying to revive the dead 6.0

Hey so i pulled the 6.0 into the shop here at work and i am getting ready to test the FICM. I am in the process of getting the batteries back to full charge and then i will be ready. If anyone wants to chime in on my diagnostics i would appreciate any input.

To the best of my knowledge the rig died a couple of months ago and wouldnt start, just sputters and puffs a little white diesel smoke. I have been informed that it was probably the FICM, but have also heard it could be the cam sensor, either way i am gonna do the test on the FICM first and then go from there.

FICM is easiest to test. If that checks out, try running a scan tool on it. IPC could also be cause as well. What year truck is this? Do the FICM first though, that's cake. It's also thought that weak batteries can actually kill a FICM over time, so if you're charging the batteries now... that tells me they've been dead for a while or dying!?

Yes this rig has had low and dead battery issues throughout its life, it is a 2005, the batteries are almost up to charge so i just need to find someone to crank it over for me while i read the meter. And what is the IPC. Thanks, Chad.

IPC is injector pressure control sensor. On an 05 truck it's on the passenger side valve cover. It was a more common failure on 03/04 trucks because it was on the back of the motor under the turbo and oil often dripped on it and wrecked it.

I would get the batteries load tested. Even though they may hold voltage now, they might be dropping under load. Could be part of your issues. Definitely check out the FICM though and let us know how you make out.

Well i checked ficm, had 18 vlts key on, went to 48 cranking for second then back down to 17. Called swamps diesel told them whats goin on they said for sure ficm is bad, i asked about low batteries killing ficm they said they dont believe it is a cause of failure, got a rebuilt ficm from ford dealer, because we have an account with them, going to install it tonite and hope for the best. I will let you know what happens.

taking off the three plugs on the back of the ficm was it easy...

on mine they came off way too easy and i had to install the large twist ties to keep it on

they never snapped in place when i re-installed

I looked at the three plugs and the littlle tabs came off....

they push back it and could not figure out..

they were kinda hard to get out, even more of a chalenge to get back in and they did snap into place, i was sure to put them in as straight as posible so i didnt risk bending the connectors in the ficm.

mine went straight in but did not snap in ...

so i had to use a large heavey duty twist tie to hold them in

placed it around the whole ficm....just to be sure

You still have your dead FICM? I'd be interested in buying it... PM me.
