Maybe in that thread i missed the point that ruled this out or just didn't comprehend it?
And the one in the Tech files is stuck to where no one can discuss it. Typical Org fashion.

The first thread you linked. Didnt he install a coolant filter after he replaced the oil cooler?

When i installed my egr delete and new oil cooler i used cat elc ec1 manly cuz its already a 50/50 mix and i can get it cheaper than ford gold. IM still gonna test my coolant yearly to make sure its good, everybody has their own opinions on what coolant they like to use. I have no problem w/ ford gold but its price.

The whole point of the thread linked above is to show people that rave about the Cat ELC coolant, that it's NOT APPROVED FOR USE IN 6.0 APPLICATIONS! Does this not bother anyone at all?

Ford Doesn't approve the use of Your SCT, does that bother you? Not being a dick just throwing it out there.

Apples to Oranges there. With the SCT I know what's going on and I'm willing to take the risk. With the variety of coolants offered out there, why would you want to take a risk with that? Why not just use something that works? I don't use helmets that aren't DOT/SNELL approved...

And again, I want to point out that I'm not ragging on anyone here, and not suggesting those of you running the CAT coolant to go out and change it immediately, it's just to get the wheels turning and to think about what we take as solid factual info off the net, just because "everybody" says it's true... We are ALL guilty of this. I myself was 100% ready to run Cat coolant until I read the thread so I'm just as guilty as the next guy. I'm not ruling it out as a viable option now, but I do know I need to read a little more into it.

Another fact is that running ELC is not proven. Even if it is the solution we wont know for a while.

I was doing a littel research last night and foudn this thread. Granted its for 94 to 97 F series trucks and its dated in 2005. But I did find it interesting that they state the Rotella is good for 600k miles and only needs an additive at the 300k mile mark.

The earlier powerstrokes have quite different coolant requirements though... The big issues for us is the nitrate levels of the ELC stuff.... Ford has a minimum requirement for nitrate levels.
