Default The Mysterious Strategy Code

I'm getting ready to order an STC X3 tuner from Innovative Diesel. They tolde me they needed the strategy code that was on my truck so they could do the programs. They said I could go to a ford dealership and have them get the code or buy the blank tuner and use it to get the code, then they could email me the tunes and I could upload them. I took my truck to ford and told them I wanted the strategy code off my truck's computer and they looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears. They said "we've never heard of what you're talking about". I explined to them what exactly I was wanting to do and they said "There is nothing listed as strategy code when you hook it up to the computer". They asked if I was wanting the calibration code? I said all I know is I was told I need the strategy code, the tuners need to know what flash is on my truck. They plugged into the truck and pulled 6 differrent codes and wrote them down for me and said "this is all the codes we can think of that you might need. Hope it's what you're looking for". They still didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for the strategy code. I have asked 3 different certified ford mechanics and none of them now what I'm talking about. Is there another name for the strategy code??

Wow. Simply amazing. What scares me is these are the people working on your truck and being paid by Ford to do so! It's crazy what LITTLE they know outside of what info Ford spoon-feeds them. I've had nothing but terrible service since owning a diesel. It's opened my eyes to just how poor the technicians can be when it comes to these motors.

What codes did they give you? We can probably pick it out for you. I suppose they might have a different name for it, but clearly none of them are familiar with the world of aftermarket tuners and if they are, they don't know anything about SCT's, which also means they don't know squat about 6.0 tuning...

I got it straightened out. Ford knows it as the PCM calibration code. And, they charged me $25 to read it to me.

yeah they're rediclous. Not only did my dealer charge me $50 to pull a code but when i went to pick it up after the new turbo was installed, The "diesel tech's" tried to start my truck my truck with starting fluid!! I almost killed this guy. I no longer use this dealership but it seems like since i got a diesel none of the dealerships know what theyre doing.

the problem with some of the technicians is there not real diesel tech... most dealerships are hurting for real diesel technicians... so they have some of the regular techs. cover down and thats how everything gets messed up... thats why some dealers are hiring kids straight out of high school and paying them to go to some kind of diesel tech school in there area... true diesel techs make bank... but most techs dont wanna mess with em because they are intimidated...

I've talked to master senior diesel technicians from Ford who had some fancy shmancy plaques on their wall from their years of service, and was truly dumbfounded by just how idiotic they were.

You really want to make a diesel tech look like an idiot, go into the shop with a vegistroke kit on your truck.
