Default gas milage question

i just bought a 2004 f250 crewcab lariat 6.0 diesel with 60,000 miles. i drove it from north carolina to massachusetts (890 miles)and got 16.5 mpg. now i filled the tank and drove 63 city miles, then filled the tank again (9.165 gallons). 63 divided into 9.165= 6.873
the only thing i saw was that the air filter was extremelly dirty. i would say it was never replaced(60,000 miles). i went to walmart and got a fram air filter for $72.00 and replaced it now im praying that the milage will go up. what do you guys think? is there something else i should ck.

hmmm i didnt know that. what i did was as soon as it clicked i round it to the dollar, i looked in and i saw foam(bubles) so i stoped. i figure i do the same thing the next time around.
OK so tomorrow morning im going to pump till it gets to the brim. i will let you guys know in a couple of days.
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD DO OR LOOK FOR?
also in the morning i warm it up for about 5 min, should i warm it up more? it takes for ever for the temp to go up just by idleing, but once i start driving i goes up to normal and thats when i get full power
temp in massachusetts has been 30* in the day and single digits at night and mornings.
i always plug her in.

When you fill it up and the nozzle stops. Let the foam go down for a few seconds. Repeat process till you can see fuel with NO FOAM starting to come up the filler neck. Usually takes a few extra minutes to fill up. But you get about 3 to 4 gallons more in the tank. I will pull the nozzle handle till the flow is just a trickle going in. It wont foam as bad.

I average about 16 mpg. But of course I have a lead foot also and like to **** off the rice burners.. No mods other then a 4 inch exhaust that exit in front of right rear tire. Most I have ever got on a FULL tank was 502 miles. So thats 32 gals by 502. 15.98 mpg IM sure id get a whole lot more if i could keep it under 75 mph.

Pull your EGR valve out and check for carbon build up. It may need to be cleaned.
