i've been talking to a couple of diesel techs and they tell me that sct tuners run really hot and that i probably wont want something that hot. not sure exactly what "hot" means but they sounded pretty convincing. itsn't there a tuner/programmer/chip/whatever that comes with tunes/programs that is suitable for what i want? i'm looking for better fuel milage and some extra horsepower. i will never be taking this truck to the truck pulls, nor will i be racing it. i will however, be pulling a stock trailer from time to time. maybe a simple tuner thats easy to use? one that i dont have to upload and download and reprogram everything? i been looking at the edge evolution cts, it seems pretty straight forward but noone here say they're any good? the only place that says they're good is powerstroke.org and, the diesel techs i been talking too. this all sounds really complicated to me. i thought it was just a plug and play kind of thing. you know, plug it in choose the setting and go. i am however, scheduled to have the egr delete kit installed monday morning as long as it gets here by then. at any rate, it been bought and ordered. the other day i took the egr out and cleaned it (i heard you could do that for preventative maintinance) that was on sunday. this morning on the way to work, she seemed like sje was running a little rough and then the check engine light came on. this evening after work i pulled the egr again and found that an o-ring was damaged so i cleaned it again and put new o-rings on it and made sure i was VERY careful reinstalling it. i unhooked the battery to reset the computer, hooked everything back up, fired the truck up and...check engine light still on. truck seemed to be running better with no complaints except for...check engine light still on. hopefully the egr delete will get rid of the dreaded...check engine light. oh, by the way, i've had this truck a week. i was a little leary of buying a 6.0 but, it is a really nice truck if the egr is gonna be my only problem (until monday) then i'm good with it. the 6.0 must be kinda like a harley (which i'm on my second one now) high maintinance, but when she works right she runs like a sumbitch. we say around the harley scene "any fool can hop on a jap bike and diver away and never have to touch the engine. but it takes a special kind of person to own and love harleys. they require alot more maintinance and care"

Ha ya the 6.0 is just like a harly. I would only get sct tuners they are berry easy to use and you can get as mild of a tune you want to as extream as you want. e mail eric over at innovative diesel ad tell him what you want he can make somthing for you and if your tuck is a 05 up when you do the EGR delete you will get a check engine light and SCT tuners are the only one that will get rid of it. Everthing I have heard a out the edge on a Powerstroke is that they are berry hard on transmission.

yeah a 6.0 does take some matinence but as long as you take care of it ill be good. with your truck the egr delete will set a code. you need to get a sct with a cutom tune to erase it and it will also read the other code for you. the edge isnt worth the money you will lift a head and you want something that also tunes the tranny. I was also erie about buying one for my 04 but i love it. also make sure you change the oil every 5000miles and fuel filters evey second oil change. coolant filter is also a good idea

Whatever diesel techs you're talking to have no clue about 6.0 tuning apparently.

Get an SCT with custom tunes. You're going to regret it if you don't. It's your truck do what you want with it. You asked, we told you, you apparently are going to just do whatever you want anyways.

Running "Hot" happens with any hot tune. The beauty of the SCT is you can get a tune set up any way you want. Plus it wont kill your transmission like the other "programmers". These programmers are "plug and play". If you don't know how to use email to get the tunes then maybe it is too complicated for you.

Doing an EGR delete on an 06 is going to CAUSE the check engine light to come on. You need an SCT with custom tuning to do this and have the light turned off.

My advice is staying the same, call Eric @ Innovative, or Matt @ Gearhead or someone like that, tell them what your truck is and how you use it and what kind of power you're looking for, they will give you a tune to meet your needs. My only other advice I'm adding to this, is stop talking to the "techs" who told you this information about them running "hot".

It will run hot if you tow with a race tune, but if yo use a good tow tune you will have no problem, and it will do wonders for your transmission. The SCT is like any other "tool" you have to use it correctly for it to work the best.
With the 6.0 it is all about the maintenance. This engine is very hard on oil, so don't be cheap use "good" oil and only Motorcraft oil and fuel filters, it does make a huge difference. Don't try to push your intervals past 5000mi for oil and 10000 for fuel filters, it just isn't worth it. In the long run mainenance is cheap compaired to repairs.

It's really easy to be led another direction if you're not on the forums. Banks has some wonderful advertisements in all of the diesle mags. Those companies have one great thing in common, they're good at marketing.

I didn't know about SCT's until I joined the forums...
