Default Smog Check!!!

I just got my smog check notice with my renewal. I was wondering who has had it done. If so what was the cost and was it just a visual inspection or was it like a normal smog check. Also Ijust wanted to mention that I think this is a bunch of bull crap that theyu woul;d make us have to do this.

It all depends on your location, what state? the usual is to do a visual inspection, look for the cats and filters etc.... and then probe the tailpipe and run it on a dyno at 30mph for a minute or two. the test just looks for particulates.
Any mods to the truck drivetrain wise? if your completely stock you'll pass with flying colors

All I have is an Airaid intake and the rest is stock. I'm in CA so I know they are strict. It should be cool.

I'm in Ventura, did my registration last month, I too got the letter of inspection in the mail. It's super easy, they pull the truck in and check for the cat and egr system, then he looked to make sure there wasn't a check engine light. No sniffer, no smoke test, didn't even check to make sure the egr system or cat were functional. I completely agree with your frustration, 1 big reason I bought a diesel was so I could get away from the smog check bullshit.

had mine smogged this year and the onnly thing they do is run a visual basicly. So as long as you have your egr valve and cat and set any tuners to factory you should be fine. I took mine to Duprat Ford in Dixon, CA. I think they also run it for a few and make sure its not spewing black smoke.

Oh and its is 2005 or newer it shold only be smogged if you jsut bought it or selling it. They dont have to be smogged for first 6 years of ownership. They just tack on a smog fee of $20 I think to your reg.

oh wow thats not too bad, im an emissions inspector in CT, all we do is just probe the pipe and run it on the dyno. all we do is put in what the truck should have and what it has currently and just run it. we dont check for cats or egr's or any emissions components, run whatcha brung hahaha
