Default No oil in filter housing 6.0

Just had a friends truck come in on a a trailer. he broke down on the road and took it to a ford dealer. they put a new oil fiter stand tube on because it was crushed. then they installed a hpop and a fuel press. reg. they changed the oil and filters. they then charged him 2000.00 and he towed it home and brought it to my house. on inspection of the oil filter housing i found no oil in the housing and the new filter is bone dry. the black check valve in the bottom came out and was lying sideways in the bottom. i put it back in and held it down with a screwdriver and i started to see oil moving then my screwdriver slipped and it wont try to fill again. the oil filter plastic cap also does not match the ford part number. i wondered if someone put the wrong filter in or somehow smashed the stand tube and damaged the check valve at the same time. was also wondering if they will run with that check valve not working correctly. any help would be great not really a 6.0 guy but i am learning.

there must be more to this story...

it could be dry if they never turned it over

if the oil pump is working you would think there would be oil there in the housing

or maybe the pick up tube is not there...came off so there is no oil going to the pump
could be an air leak so will not prime...

on a gas engine ...i use to take the spark plugs out and run it over on the starter motor and check for oil pressure before firing it up for the first time.....

did your friend loose oil pressure in the begining......before brought it in

What did the Ford Dealer say who charged 2000 bucks say...what is the problem

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

the oil filter plastic cap also does not match the ford part number
it could be an after market oil filter cap / housing

the after market WIX style comes with oil filter plastic cap and filter together

So the first oil change you through out the oem plastic cap because the new wix comes with one on it all ready

Then you realize you need a new cap when go back to oem Ford one

This happens wuite often when not using OEM filters in a 6.0 He will need a stock oil filter capp and replace the drain valve in the bottom of the assembly.

Yeah, OEM oil filters or international only. (Fram is OK too, I've checked it side by side with the OEM and they're the exact same filter including part numbers).

I run the Mann company's oil filter in my 6.0 and have had absolutely no problems with it. I have however had problems with the o-rings in the motorcraft filter kits leaking on me.

I've been using the same O-ring for almost 2.5 years on mine and haven't had it leak yet. I've got a pile of them in my door for when it does, but haven't needed to yet. I have heard some HORROR stories about using off brand filters. Oil filters as well as fuel filters. Some of the aftermarket fuel filters don't even have a water separator on them...

I will not use anything but motorcraft. I work on small motors and I see every day what people do to save a dollar. Good filters, good oil and Change oil regularly. After a few years you get tired of explaining to people why the motor blew up!

This is the only vehicle I'll use a Fram on, only because it's this style. The screw on fram filters for gas vehicles are complete crap. Open one up sometime. Cardboard glued to metal... Yep. Real quality there...
