If you had a FICM code, fix the FICM. I've seen this before, truck throws FICM code, code is cleared, then the only codes that pop up for a while are injector codes, but the FICM is the root cause. If you fix the FICM, those injector codes will most likely disappear, but if not then you can replace them, but do the FICM first.

Code P0284 -Ford: Cylinder #8 Balance Fault

Code 1378 -Ford: (FICM) Supply Voltage Circuit Low

Fix your voltage issue at the FICM like Mdub said... If you will go to http://www.bscustoms.net/diesel/FICM.pdf it will give you help in fixing your problem.

Sounds like a dead injector. Check the harness going to the injector for chaffing. You can always try swapping it for another injector on the motor and see if the codes follow to the new cylinder. You can also put it on a scanner and shut it off to see if there is a difference in how it runs.

Does it feel like it's running on 7?

no it runs really good except at idle, it smokes hard with h=white smoke and there is a film of oil on the tail of the truck. once it warms up it is smooth, still getting 22 mpg but it acts like it is loading up on fuel when at idle.

22mpg? I wouldn't change a thing if I even thought there was a chance of me getting mileage that high.

What's the smoke coming out of the tail pipe smell like? Sweet like coolant, or burn your eyes like fuel?

the smoke smells like fuel, i am not loosing any coolant, there is not any in the oil nor is there any oil in the coolant. the truck is actually a 6.4 (2008 f250 crewcab 4wd), i cant complain about the performance. biggest issue i have is that it smokes like a skeeter fogger. when i bought the truck it had 100k on it i have put 40 on it in the last year, pull a boat a lot, a 5th wheel travel trailer to Padre island and back ( i live outside TUlsa) and get 16 when pulling the trailer at 70.

the truck started doing this i guess the first time was about 3 months ago, i let it run to warm up while i ran inside to get a coke for the road when i came back out it was running like it was dying and smoking to beat all hell so i killed the motor and started checking everything, (i have heard horror stories about the egr leaking coolant into the block) when everything was full i turned the key to see what it would do, it started right up, no smoke not making any noises or anything, took it to Ford and ran the codes, none.

Sunday morning when i started it and let the truck warm up it started smoking some (hard to tell in the dark) and after the engine revved itself up during the warm up it started to smoke really hard and then running like a miss and the check engine came on, took it to my regular gas mechanic and we ran the codes i get an 0284 and 0308 misfire on cylendar 8 and the balance code.

we ran the glow plugs and injectors and everything checks out ok on the scanner.
