Default HELP!

alright well i got a 04 6.0 i was driving and its started stumbling and dumping black smoke. i got to where i was going and checked the coolant it was empty. i filled it up 2 days ago so i know it was full. i filled it back up and it was working ok. now almost everytime i put it in drive it goes into "limp mode" and if it doent do that it stumbles to the point it barely gets going. i dont think its a head cuz the system would be over pressurizing and it would blow coolant out of the cap but i dont know.

any advice would help.

thanks, dave

well from the sound of it id say that you have some kind of elec issue since its flashing lights and messing with the tranny... have you fixed or had troubles with any of the probs that plague the 6.0?

I don't know where your coolant is going but i'd say take a look at the ground for your torque converter for your transmission problems.

Sounds like transmissions issues coupled with possible EGR cooler/headgaskets.

The tow/haul flashing is bad and telling you there is somethign wrong with the transmission. These don't really have a limp mode per se, but I know they will cut fuel if boost is held for too long, like if you were staging up for a boosted launch and held it at the light too long. It will lose power drastically and your speedo wont work, but it usually kicks back off in 60 seconds or so.

The black smoke sounds like a turbo with sticking vanes to me.

EGR cooler is gone. You need to hook it up to a scanner to see whats going on with the transmission. +1 on the turbo veins clogged up.

FWIW, I had put mine into the de-fuel or "limp" mode as you call it once, and I destroyed a stock torque converter shortly after (more than likely from the incident that caused it to "limp) and never once got a tow/haul flash either... I think it does that when it senses slip possibly?
