Default white/grayish smoke from exhaust after new turbo

well i replaced my turbo due to a bad oil seal in the turbo, and i upgraded the oil drain tube as well. the oil drain was installed following the International install directions.

now while the truck is idling i dont produce any smoke. but i do have white smoke coming from exhaust when i get into boost (5lbs @ about 1500+ rpm's). after i let off the throttle i get smoke coming from underneath the turbo. could this be coming from the oil drain?

when i have the truck in park, i get the engine up to 2000 rpm's and it doesn't produce any smoke at all. nothing from underneath the turbo or the exhaust.

i'm also getting a "hissing" sound coming from the engine while its idling, i cant tell if it goes away when rpm's increase due to engine noise. could this be a boost leak?

does anyone have any ideas on a possible solution to my problem?

the factory turbo was replaced with a brand new Garrett Powermax turbo.

First off the smoke could be from built up oil in the exhaust from the old turbo burning off.
Its easy to get the up-pipe clamp on but the up-pipe flange not quite aligned and it will leak exhaust.

i would agree 100% with you on that. but the part that me baffled is the after i get off the pedal the smoke i can see coming from the bottom of the turbo. could the exhaust leak let some of the smoke come back up through the y-pipe? could that be why i am seeing some white smoke coming from under the turbo after i get off the gas? is there a easier way the make sure i get the y-pipe aligned correctly?

When you get off the throttle, if you have boost built up, it needs to go somewhere, and when you let off it wont go into the engine, it goes back to where it was coming from. Ever hear of turbo-fart? That's what is happening.

A turbo bark on a 6.0 with a VGT turbo is a poping sound. No smoke will be see.

Loosen the up-pipes from the manifolds. You'll need a 10mm wrench and a 13mm swivel socket. Then loosen the clamp at the turbo. With a flash light make sure the ypipe flange falls into the pocket on the turbo side. Once it fits snug tighten the ypipe clamp and then tighten the manifold connections back up and you should be good to go.

I agree. I was thinking that he may have normal turbo fart/bark, with other issues at the same time, thus the smoke.

Pull the EGR valve and look inside the intake manifold, does it look wet?

The clamp is what lines everything up and holds it tight together. They're designed that way, the V-band clamps. It will be really noticeable if it's not lined up, it will hiss like crazy.
