i run royal purp and im getting rdy to change. i think the RP has contributed to my 5 or 6 HPOPs that have gone out so i wouldnt recomend it. now i dont have any real proof that it is the RP doing it but ive changed everything else from the programing on the truck to the oil cooler and the only thing that has stayed the same is the oil

Wow, that's quite a few miles for an 05. Must have had good highway use. Couple things to consider before going synthetic if you lean that way. With the 05, it may not be too bad.
-any oil leaks
-does it use any oil
if either of those, chances are it won't get better. Otherwise there's no reason you couldn't use it. Many good brands, dino or syn. Rotella is the biggest dino used. AMSOIL or Mobil are good syns. Never used RP, just go by what others have expressed.

Shell Rotella,Delo 400, Mobil Delvac are pretty good oils that do a good job of protecting your engine. Everybody has their preference on what they like/don't like just pick one and give it a try. I've been using synthetics since the mid 80's and don't mind spending the extra $$. Oils have changed a lot over the years and there are some dino oils that perform almost as good as some synthetics. Tons of reading out there just research what you are buying and why it works for you. What works for me might not fit into your plan so keep that in mind.

Thanks y'all for the info. I think im gonna try the rotella syn. How long should i run on an oil change? I've had the truck for 3 weeks and i've already put 7k on it and i've been using delo 400,the same as what i use in my other trucks. But im wanting to extend my oil change intervals.
I would do a UOA sample at 5k miles to get an idea on what is go on with the engine then go from there. You might want to look into a bypass filter if you are wanting to extend your drain intervals. Many opinions out there on who makes a good synthetic so you have to decide what fits into your $$.

I wouldn't go more than 7500 miles on synthetic and 5000 on dino. If you want to extend oil change intervals, look into an oil bypass filter. It will keep the oil cleaner, longer. That is the best way to improve the intervals.
I like Amsoil a LOT, but the price is outrageous. I've been running standard Rotella now, but will be changing it at 3k miles just because I'm running a vegistroke and changing the oil more often will prevent major problems if I have a leaky injector.
I will NEVER run royal purple in a single thing I own.
I am also not a fan of Mobil 1. I've read a lot of independent research on oils and Mobil 1 synthetics are not even a true synthetic.
I've heard and read a lot of good thing about Schaeffers, but never used it myself.
