EGR valve is right on the top of the motor when looking straight down, kind of behind the intake elbow. Here's a pic looking from the rear of the intake manifold forward.

Here's a good write up to cleaning it... Diesel Technician Society

#5 injector is on the passenger side. They're pretty straightforward once you dive in there... Are you using a new or a used injector? If used, make sure to use a new o-ring. I've also heard of them coming loose after reinstallation and causing a rough running condition. May want to torque just a hair more than what it calls for.

6.0L Bible Table of Contents

Scroll down, there's info on injector removal.

You are right, #5 is passenger side, brain fart. That is the harder side unfortunately.

The cylinders of the 6.0L Power Stroke are numbered from the front on the right side 1, 3, 5, 7 and from the front on the left side 2, 4, 6, 8

I've seen these trucks run on 7 cylinders no problem before, so are you sure it's the injector causing the no start, or is that just part of the problems? Is it throwing any codes? I'm assuming codes were read and this is how you figured out #5? I would maybe test the FICM too. ICP could also cause a no-start issue. How many miles on this truck? Any mods? Was it smoking at all before this happened? Did it die suddenly, or did he shut it off and now it just wont start?
