Default im at a loss of coolant

so...im loosing coolant probly a gallon every 2 to 5 days (depending on how much the truck is run)

ive pressure tested the reservoir and cap both held 16psi which is spec

ive got an egr delete so nothings goin through there

had the oil cooler checked and its not restricted

coolant temps are runnin between 190 and 210 so i dont think im boiling it

after a good hr of running i can pop the hood and smell coolant

nothing is pooling under the truck

only thing i can think of is its getting into the block but im not puttin out any white smoke so im confused as all hell

anything to help me keep my sanity would be awesome

thanks

jeremy

I know a guy who had a head gasket starting to blow and it ate through the coolant, didn't have any white smoke or anything, but his head gasket was blown, just not terribly bad, so who knows maybe that could be it, hopefully not though

So I assume you have a white residue around the degas cap then? The cap will hold 16psi yes, but if the headgaskets are blown, they OVER-pressurize the cap and push coolant past it. My cap was in awesome shape but it was holding sooo much pressure when I went to take it off after running the truck for a while, it literally blew off and sounded like a shotgun going off. It hit the bottom of the hood and went flying out into the yard. That's a lot of pressure.

My guess goes to headgaskets.

You should log your engine oil temp vs. your engine coolant temp with your SCT and a labtop. Find a big hill and do a run up it, when you let off, check the temps. They should be real close to each other (something like 10 degrees apart and no more).

It is a slightly blown head gasket i have the exact same problem, it runs perfectly fine but after goin 75 for a while or pullin a load over 2000lbs it loses coolant and smells like burning coolant.. i replaced the resivor bottle the resivor lid..and lower radiator hose..still nothin..so i finally took it and got it dug into..passed pressure test..but still considered that i broke it down..and it was the head gasket was slightly blown from previous egr cooler and oil cooler gone bad. hope this helps

turns out that it was leaking...and drinking...a hose was leaking but after they fixed that they say that it was raining coolant outta the cap and so it is a blown head gasket

so now my question is what gaskets should i use. the guy at the shop is tellin me that ford gaskets will be fine since im not gunna try to push the truck to 700hp but ive also heard that putting factory gaskets back on is doom and gloom and i should swap to something else

what yall think

the Ford gaskets aren't worth it in my opinion, I'd get an ARP stud kit with Black Onyx gaskets, it's cheaper than buying the studs and the gaskets from ford, cause when my buddy did it they had to buy the head gaskets from ford and they came with the head bolt kit which i don't see the reason to pay for all that stuff if you only need the gaskets

The black onyx gaskets are the same damn thing as the ford gaskets, just coated with that "black coating" Get the victor reinz gaskets, they're the least expensive. There are 1000+rwhp trucks running these gaskets, I've never heard anything bad about the "Ford" gaskets either.

bobcat is right, no need to buy all that, just get the victor reinz, they're $47 per side.
