Sounds like solid advice. I am encouraged by what I've learned ont this forum. The fuel system problem a friend warned me about was an O-ring failure on the oil pressure- driven fuel pump. Is that familiar to you?

i personally haven't had that happen but who knows? egr delete, exhaust, SCT progammer ( with or without custom tunes from someone) intake, and head studs and you are golden, best of luck to you

Oil pressure driven fuel pump? your fuel pump is electric pal... Maybe he was talking about something else and you got it mixed up? major problems with these are egr, head gaskets, and injectors. Delete your egr system, throw in some ARP headstuds, Keep your oil clean and change it on time, and get an sct and your set!

I agree and disagree-
I agree that you need to stud your heads still and a better exhaust will go a long way.
I strongly disagree that your stock cold air intake is just as good. I have put A LOT of aftermarket intakes on trucks and they make a world of difference! I dont really know why you would need an EGR delete kit unless your purchasing a new turbo and looking to pull real power out of your truck. If its just a daily driver I disagree. I would still reccomend a programmer/module like Banks that will open up your truck without pushing it. If your looking to push real horsepower then yes move on to custom tunes but I was under the impression this was a daily driver. I would be careful about buying stuff that you dont really need for this truck. You could probably get get the Banks IQ and 6gun for about $1000 bucks and this will keep you from having to buy guages.

You should be able to get intake, exhaust, and programmer for around $1600 bucks

The OEM filter can hold over 3 pounds of dust/dirt flowing more air than ANY aftermarket system. In the long run an aftermarket system means MORE maintenance to maintain airflow.

Your lack of knowledge about the 6.0L EGR system, issues and solutions is quite obvious.

You said all that in the same sentence....I can't believe it. Banks IQ is the stuff you don't need.

SCT w/custom tunes= $450
Gauges w/mount= $350+
Savings=$200

If this is the case why is there such a market for aftermarket filters? and why are all of the competition trucks running them?
Im just looking to keep this truck within parameters and keep it safe that is why I suggested Banks. My understanding is that custom tunes are really pushing your truck to its limits.

Competition trucks, exactly. the stock goes up to about 500 hp then you need an aftermarket. but alot of people do get them before they reach that mark for personal reasons. And No Way will a banks system ever be better than custom tuning!!! Canned tunes are okay but not made for your engine and tranny. they're made for everyones. Custom tuning uses your engines strategy to create a tune that's made "CUSTOM" for your engine and transmission. So everything works better together in sync and the transmission is tuned along with it. canned tunes(Banks and other tuners) will destroy a tranny quick. Alot of guys actually run custom race tunes on their SCT as dailey drivers to get maximum MPG out of their enginge as it's working alot easier to do the same amount of work. Therefore yeilding more MPG and smoother engine operation. I'm not putting you down or trying to be mean to you but you obviously have a huge lack in 6.0L powerstrokes or you have been very mis informed. If your unsure of something please don't give people the same ideas you have, as they think you know what your talking about and go off of something your not fully informed on. To the Original poster. Get yourself an egr delete, straight pipe exhaust from the turbo back, head studs, and customs tunes and you will be very happy with your truck. and if you have any questions please feel free to PM me and ask.

Banks isn't worth the money, even the Edge. Its all generic tunes designed to raise hp by just fooling the PCM into increasing fueling and timing. And you don't have to run the custom tunes if that worries you. Just run the canned tunes that the SCT will come with. But the custom tunes even on a stock truck will out do any generic programmer like Edge and Banks since you are able to change so many engine parameters.

I ran the Edge Juice Platinum on my 06 when I first got it, yeah it was a good programmer and you could feel the difference in power, but now with my SCT w/ Elite tunes, it's a whole new truck.

If you don't believe that, come ride in my truck, the Edge I used to have did a number on my tranny.

I am new to custom tunes so please explain to me what is the big difference between general tunes such as edge/Banks verses custom tunes? How is they are getting more horsepower? Are they advancing timing? increasing fuel pressure? locking torque converter? how is it custom to your truck? and being more effective? I honesty (as you can tell) do not know much about custom tunes. Please help.

off the shelf tunes such as edge, banks, sct, etc.... are just the average tunes, custom is well what it says custom, they will change the tune to what you have done to your truck, bump the timing a bit, change the shift points and when the TC locks, they change a lot
