Default Would my factory warranty be voided?

I've heard different scenario's about 100k mi. factory warranty with aftermarket products. I want to add air intake, tuner, and 4" exhaust, and I was told that it would void my factory warranty. But I also heard if the dealership installed it, it shouldn't void it. And I also was told it didn't matter what you put on it or who does it.... 5 years/100k miles no matter. Does anyone have any insight on this issue?

Good rule of thumb is ANYTHING added poses a risk of voiding the warranty. The thing about it is the dealer has to prove that the mod was the cause of the warrantied issue. Example, a 5in turbo back doesn't really effect the ball joints but you're gonna fight em to prove yourself right in some cases.

Talk to your dealer, Some don't mind others get pretty twisted. Good luck!

The tuner you will definitely have issues with. Intake/exhaust most dont care about. It depends on the dealer. Regardless, you will not find a dealer that will warranty anything with the tuner ON.

I've had dealers that knew I used a tuner, but they've all told me to return to stock before bringing the truck in for work.

I have an AFE intake and stacks and have no issues thus far. Having the dealer install it will make no difference.

a tuner is a great way to void warranty...one thing that i learned the hard way on one of my work trucks is with superchips and cheap tuners you have to drive about 25-50 miles to remove a dtc that say that the truck hasnt run a full cycle yet (one way to get around that is to say that u thought it was acting up and just before it quit running u read and cleared the dtcs...)

as for the other mods like everyone else has said most dealers work under the idea of screw you we wont pay...but in truth if they mod didnt cause the problem then they are out...

easy way to solve to problem is before you put a mod on call a couple dealerships and ask what they think could or would happen is you do something and from what they tell you you should be able to find a dealership that wont give you to many problems...

for example i had a guy at a dealership say that me installing an aftermarket radio would void my powertrain warranties...but i had another tell me that if i installed a tuner i would have to read and clear the dtcs before i brought it in and that they "wouldnt dig into it"

Thanks for everyones help... I think I'm going to go ahead and install everything and worry about the warranty if I need it. I only have 19000 miles left on it anyway.

biggest thing is if you get a tuner make sure that you dont get anything that you have to drill into the dash or anything...thats a sign to dealerships to dig deeper into the comp for something "fishy"

also keep all your factory parts...even if you dont put them back on u can always sell them or use them on buddies trucks

I'm not disagreeing, but there is an entire page in the Edge manual about the delership having to prove that the programmer was the issue BEFORE voidong the warranty. Let's be honest, the dealership is not in business to fix trucks with manufacturer defects, they're there to sell trucks, so any excuse will do. Edge does concede that the dealership is going to have deeper pockets than you do for a legal battle, so the best thing to do is to remove it before going in for service. I took mine in twice when I was having issues with the turbo. The tech either didn't see evidence of the Edge, or didn't care. Either way, I got a new turbo out of the deal.

very true some dealerships dont care...i had a tech find my chip on my truck when i went in to have them change my oil...he came up talked to me said if you got 20 bucks on ya ill forget that i found that...

and yes in almost every state the dealer has to prove that the aftermarket part voided warranty...but if they find a tuner on your truck they will deny the warranty then ur stuck with a broken truck trying to figure out how the hell ur gunna fight such a huge legal battle and still get your truck fixed...so in a situation like that its just better to act under the idea that it voids warranties and do anything that you can to make it disappear...
