Default 03 fuel filters

Hello. my bossman has a 03 f350 and he said it has been missing some when pulling a load. We drained the water out of the fuel and it was pretty dirty. I was wondering how many fuel filters this truck has and if they could cause the miss. The truck is all stock.

Thanks for any input.

I know the 04 has two filters one on top of the motor and the other one is underneath the truck on the driver side by the frame. You should change the filter every 10,000 miles

Thanks powerstroke 7. He had the filters changed on it but he thinks the guy maybe just changed the one on the motor. I think if we change the other one it would be a good place to start.

i changed both on my truck
i could not believe how much dirt was in the filter under the driver side under the truck

i have also read it is good to change both after 10,000 miles

I usually dont make it to 10k miles before I can sense my motor not running as smooth. I usually change around 7-8k miles. International says 15k miles and Ford says 10k, but Ford has made the motor work harder than international so understandable.

The filters come in a package of 2, and I dont think you can buy them individually, so it'd be silly for the mechanic to only change one. Unless you can get them separately, but I haven't seen that option anywhere....

Thanks guys. I believe that is his problem. Especially after we drained the water and all the muddy water came out. I guess we got some dirty fuel up here in the NC mountains.

Is it possible the filters were changed, but the mechanic didn't know enough to drain the water?

That is some darn dirty fuel if I do say so myself!

It is possible the that the one on the frame rail had been missed but I figured since they came in pairs it would be hard to overlook. The filter on the frame was def very dirty. As far as the water in fuel the light stays on all the time even if you just drained it. He drove it today and said that it didnt miss any but he didnt have a load on it either so I guess we will see.

Thanks for all the help. You ford guys might be ok after all.

If the light is still on, there might be further issues there...

I found this searching around...

good info mdub i will def pass that along to my bossman. He had the sensor replaced some time ago but judging by how corroded the water drain screw was i bet he probably needs a new sensor again.
