Default Cleaned my egr last night... pics inside

Took the time last night to pull out my Egr vavle and clean it and i'm glad i did...

If you wanna do it(i suggest you do if you haven't) here's whatcha do.
The EGR valve is located beside your oil filter housing. remove the plugin from the sensor and use an 8mm socket and extention to remove the 2 bolts that hold it in. once you remove the 2 bolts you'll have to work the part a little to loosen it up. i wiggled it back and forth till i got it to where i was able to turn it, then i tied some steel wire through the 2 bolt holes and used leverage off the alternater with apry bar to get it to come out. trust me you'll need ot do this. After removing i sprayed heavily with carb cleaner and scrubbed it down till it was clean. be careful of the 2 oring gaskets on the valve and don't mess them up. this hasn't been explained to me in any other egr cleaning threads so i'll go ahead and tell y'all. if you reach in between the bottom of the valve and the middle and you can get your fingers around that little shaft you can lift the valve up and clean better in and around it. once clean just reinstall and plug back up. this seemed to make my engine run a little smoother and better but mine was pretty bad off. Take a look....

Sorry the pics are a little blurry i took the pics with my phone and at night time.

Tools to clean:
My girlfriends toothbrush(not recommended to use your gf's)
wire brush, rags, a small screw driver or pik,and Carb cleaner

Dirty EGR:
Notice you can barely see through one of the hole from the carbon build up

Intake:

And cleaned =) :

Do you take the O-rings off before you scrub it or submerge it in cleaner?

From now on you need to remove the orings due to some chemicals people might use will dissolve them. But If that happens local Auto shops have them for a couple bucks. But your valve was defintly due for a good cleaning. Looks good, And defintly a good thread and pics!!

You had it off, that would have been the perfect time to eliminate it!
