Default 2005 6.0 Fuel Gauge acting up

Hi to all
I have been noticing that my fuel Gauge would fluctuate by almost quater of a tank. As an example, the tank would be almost full but the Gauge would show less than 3/4 and 15 minutes later it would go back up to what seems to be normal.
I am afraid one of these days it would say 1/4 and it would actually be empty.
Is this a common problem or is it the sensor? I have about 65K miles on it.
Thank you all in advance.

I was having the same problem I would fill it up and it would read 1/4 tank then sometimes Id be driving and it would read a full tank and I know I only had a half or a 1/4 tank. But I do not know why it was doing it or how to fix it. sorry.

Good! I am not imagining things. I am at a loss too. I think I will start watching the "Miles to empty" to see if it changes suddenly. Thank you for your reply antibullock.

Needs a sending unit.

Change a couple a month for this concern.

HOWEVER - I have changed clusters for this concern, also. So it's kind of a crapshoot. It will eventually set a P0528 DTC, probably. (I think that's the code- it's 1am, and I've been drinking.)

Much appreciated Big Angry Hillbilly.
I wonder if it is covered by the warrenty or service bulletin!! If not, is it easy to replace or do I have to drain and drop the tank?

Not a bad swap to do. I personally like removing the box, easier tha pulling out a tank with 20+ gallons of fuel in it in my opinion.

Last one I did - it was NOT covered under diesel engine warranty.
