Default Whats my 6.0 problem?

04 F350 6.0 FX4. When I start it up in the morn. it blows white smoke and seems to have no power for about 1 mile. Then it finally coughs and runs fine. I don't seem to be loosing coolant but do smell a slight antifreeze odor on occassion. Has 129k on it. I bought it with 90k and not sure what has been done previouse to my owning it. I do know it is stock. Im thinking maybe bad glowplugs, injectors, or a leaking egr cooler. i am considering installing an egr cooler bypass as we have no emmission testing here. Any suggestions?

It could be signs of a bad EGR or bad fuel. Has this been happening after multiple refills?

change the oil and all the filters and see if that helps. Sounds like an injector or two is gettin weak. My truck did that when its cold out until i got the new heat induction flash.

I work at an auto shop(metric) so I am constantly changing fluids and filters on this beast. It does not happen only after refills but after every cool down and start up cycle. In all weather conditions. I do not tow or really haul anything substantial and the coolant appears clean. There is no staining of the coolant tank so I am assuming the coolant has been maintained prior to my owning. Any thoughts on egr cooler bypass kits? While I'm in there I may replace glowplugs and injectors also.

Sounds to me like you got some ratty injectors or a weak FICM. Do you have access to a scan tool? You need to monitor the PID data regarding the FICM voltages.

Assume nothing regarding maintenance. Change the coolant. PM me the VIN and I will get you a warranty history on it. 'In there' doing an EGR delete, is not really 'In there' to change injectors, if you didn't already know. Injectors for these trucks are also quite expensive.

If the FICM power is alright, I would suggest getting the latest inductive heating flash installed and monitoring it from there.

Hope this helps.
