Default Diesel Newbie, couple of questions

Hello,
So my truck is currently in the shop getting both heads replaced, new head gaskets, studs and egr delete. I want to get the sct x4 tuner. Are the canned tunes (street, performance, towing 65/55hp) safe to use on a truck that is completely stock except for the modifications mentioned above?

Also, i want to straight pipe the truck. I am looking just to get the classic 6.0L whistle. Is buying a cat delete pipe and welding a piece where the muffler goes an option? Also, will i need to have a tune on the truck if i straight pipe it?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys!

As long your stud are aftermarket (ex. ARP)(NOT Ford factor) and egr delete, a tuner will be no problem (as long the head gasket job is done right). Any of those power levels are fine but just keep an eye on your egts. So you really need a egt gauge. And good choice in tuner, SCT for fords is my personal favorite. I like the fact they specialize in fords and for 6.0, it can tune the trans.
As for pipe, no problems with removing the cat., you don't need a tuner for engine light. There are no sensor for cat. What you do for a pipe, do as you wish. But warning you though, once it's straight without muffler, it's LOUD, it's sounds like a beast. I like it but not everyone likes it, especially neighbors .
Oh forgot it is recommended to upgrade the exh. To a 4" from turbo back, if your running a tuner, will keep your egts lower, and less back pressure too.
