Default Block Heater

This is going to be my first winter with a diesel. My question is how much will my electric bill go up if I leave my truck plugged in for an extended period of time? I work from home so I don't have a set time that I leave every day so using a timer wont work but I want to make sure it will start when it's cold

Define "extended" period of time, and how cold does it get where youre at? When I lived in Colorado, I used a timer plugged into the electric socket, and an extension cord plugged to the timer, then my truck plugged to the extension cord. The timer was set to come on at 4am, and go off at 7:30 am, right about the time I had to leave. That was enough time to warm the engine. Temps over 45 degrees, I didn't plug in. Hope that helps. My electric bill didn't go up my much.
