Default Instrument cluster swap

I want to swap out the instrument cluster in my 05 F250 with a white faced cluster like the Harley Davidson, Lariat and King Ranch have. Someone said I need to match numbers off the back of the clusters and then take it to a speedo shop to have the odometer matched. Has anyone done this swap? I would think with computers, you could just plug in a different/new one and have it read from the computer previous settings plus now show the extra info the upgraded clusters offer. I searched the threads here and found nothing, unless I just missed it!

I know this is not answering your question, but, just had my instrument cluster replaced.
They said they reprogrammed it with my current mileage. They first thought they would need to have both my keys to do the reprogramming, however, since my keys are not 'chipped', they did not need to do this process.

The issue with mine was and internal short which was draining my battery most of the time and also exhibiting strange symptoms like dome light on all the time and speedometer not returning to zero.

Mine is an 06 built in late 05.
Hope this gives you some part of what you were looking for.

Thanks BK. That is good info. Someone told me I could just peal the faces off and swap them. Think I'll give that a try as soon as I can find a doner.

There are a lot of companies advertising gauge face overlays online. Maybe you could get the look you want easier and cheaper than getting factory setup??
