03 Ford 6.0 Excessive blue/black smoke

Hi to everyone,

My name is Neal and I read this forum for a while and now have an issue that I hope that I can get some insight.

I have a 2003 Excursion 6.0 non deleted. 110k on the engine. Out of no where it started puffing an excessive amount of blue smoke after a few mins at idle. It seems to let up a little riding down the road until you stand on it and then it blows black/gry smoke. There is also smoke coming from the back of the engine at idle. If I pull upto a light, it is like someone set off a smoke bomb.

It starts up immediately and then surges at idle. The turbo seems to be spooling fine and running ok. I have thought about a cracked injector, icp (due to smoke back of engine), turbo seal. Unfortunately, haven't been able to pull codes yet and to be honest, broke as a joke and hoping for ways to tell without the fee at the mechanic but, planning on taking it in tomorrow.

I just cleaned the EGR valve and did and oil change (Rotella T 15w40) 300 miles ago. I do know that it is time to change the fuel filters (15K since last).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should also say that the truck is completely stock, with no mods

I would pull the egr back out and check the prongs. If it started after you did something always double check what you did

I agree start with what you changed. Make sure it didn't clog intake with carbon. Sea foam carbon clean will break up the carbon and make it soft. Snap on tools has a carbon cleaning system that will liquefy the carbon in intake and clean the system but u need someone who invested in the system. It will not break off chunks of carbon and burns it off thru motor. On budget, use the sea foam and let it sit! It's available at better auto parts stores. You may need to pull intake off to do properly. You may have a cracked bellows on back of motor and that could hurt you too. If you are seeing smoke on back of motor you need to find source.
