I would say use a manual gauge and watch it while you spin the engine over.

pull the oil filter out then hold down the little plunger at bottom of the housing with a screw driver and have someone crank it over to see if the housing fills with oil, also that little plunger can break and cause no/low oil pressure. there is a pressure relief valve at the oil pump too that can stick.

AnywAy to replace this stuff without taking the body off the truck? |
Ok so here's the update. Took the spring out of the regulator. Valve seems to move fine, no pressure on the spring.
Took the filter out and held down that plunger. It filled up with oil while cranking but still no pressure readout on the dummy gauge??? How do I know if that plunger is messed up? Would it be obvious? |
if it held oil while you were cranking then the plunger is good. This brings up another point, Do you have the stock filter cap and Ford or Fram filter??? if you are using a filter that comes wit its own cap then that could be the issue, a lot of the one piece/filter, cap/ combos are too short and won't hold the plunger down causing a no oil condition

And there's still the issue with it leaking like a mother when i had the problem. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Ok so I put the filter back in and cranked her, when I pulled it back out it was covered so its def filling the case up with oil. Somethin alittle weird though, I could hear the oil In the filter case gurgling after I stopped cranking... ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Anymore ideas? |
