Default bench testing the EGR solenoid

Boy with all this talk going on here about EGR stuff it's amazing that these motors run at all. But I'm no different today, so I've been investigating the two codes on my truck.
P0407 & P0488 both are EGR related, one is an EGR sensor circuit B, while the other is an EGR throttle position sensor. cool.
My question is, is there a bench test that one could perform on the EGR solenoid to see if it is sticking or not functioning at all. same with the EGR throttle position sensor.
I can't find any OHM values for these things in my manual to test them.
I removed my EGR solenoid aside from being a little sooted up it looks ok, having replaced this thing several times in the past I'm scratching my head as to why they fail the way they do.
BUT because I'm a California boy I have to keep all that crap on it.....just in case they want to sniff my tail pipe again.
anybody out there with any experience testing these things.

you can test them with a scan tool, beyond that ive never tested internal circuits on one.

Hey Miller boys; Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure how to test through the scan tool. I'm using auto enginuity for my scanning tool, and I can check% of operation but not manually operate it, although at idle it's % is 0% and driving it around but not loading it up it only goes as high as 20%. I reset the MIL and after about 10 miles of driving it comes back on again, same codes.
could you please explain about how to test through the scanning tool.
thanks
Jim

im not familiar with the ae tool. With mine or other shop scan tools you can increase or decrease the egr percentages and see if the valve moves to match each commanded percentage. Youll also have a change in engine idle when doing it.

thanks I'll give it a try, maybe I just need to look a little harder at my software and see if I have that option. on the other hand shop quality scanners and their related software are designed for the professional that will test a multitude of vehicles coming in and out of there shops, where as with the Auto Enginuity program is designed I think more for the home mechanic. I can down load any type of vehicles operation program into my lap top so long as it is OBDII compliant and see what's going on there. It is most likely designed to trouble shoot and diagnose and to point out problems and show real time operations of sensors without the ability too manipulate the operation of them ? I can do contribution test on the injectors, monitor VGT % operation, observe my HPOP psi output , EGT temps, boost and all other sensors but again I don't think I cant adjust the operation of them?
maybe I should drop some BIG $$$ and get a nice diagnostics computer to do this. we can all dream.
again thanks, I'll play around with it some more this weekend.

from everything I hear the ae is really good and very handy Ive just never used one. If it has any type of special function or functional tests you should be able to actuate the valve.
