ford 6.0 one stud at a time

right here!! I thought I would the same thing, you know trying to be proactive, it is very crucial that on a diesel head ALL bolts maintain their tork, by loosening one bolt at a time you will lose the seal between the block and head, it might last for a period but believe me it will fail. I ended up doing my head bolts any ways after I tried this. Besides with the cab on the truck you can't reach all of the bolts any ways so only some would be changed, but not the ones that seem to fail, it seems to me that #7 cylinder head gasket seal is prone to failure the most why ???
save the heart ache and do them all at once the right way.

What's the hold up? The actual labor usually only takes a backyard mechanic a weekend, waiting on parts is the long part.

[QUOTE=Diesel_Daddy6.0;1008222]It is VERY possible to do all of the studs with the cab on, I've been a part of 3 cab-on stud jobs (including my own). Just takes a little bit of slight "massaging" of the firewall and a couple rubber bands.

when you did these did you completely take the heads off or did you do it one at a time I was going to do studs one at a time but after reading this I guess I better just pull the heads and have them o-ringed while im at it

All 3 had the heads pulled and taken to the machine shop. Only 1 truck had a known gasket failure but mine was VERY close, needed .004" shaved (any more than .006" and the head can't be used) and the 3rd was perfectly fine. Truth is, you have no idea how close that gasket is to blowing until you have the head off.
