Default Performance question

hey all im new to the forum and just recently bought me my first ever ford. I have a 2003 f-250 supercab with the 6.0 turbo with 150,00 on it. Ive owned it for a month now and am ready to start my upgrades, but have heard a lot of horror stories about head studs and head gaskets. so my question is what can I do to the truck to take the stress off of the heads if I was wanting to put a programmer on it or if I should shun way from the idea all together. Im sure these questions have already been answered before but I was having trouble figuring out a straight answer. any and all information would be greatly appreciated

Head studs are hit or miss when running tunes. Only way to take stress off the heads is to keep your foot off the pedal. Id either run a mild tune without doing heads or do the heads and run a hot/race tune. Only programmer to get is SCT don't use any other one on the 6.0. Don't forget to get some gauges in there for EOT, ECT, EGT and fuel pressure if you have the extra $$. Or just get a SCT Livewire or Edge insight.

Welcome to DB!!! Be prepared to spend some money on repairs. 6.0's can be rather problematic (experience talking here). You can obtain good reliability out of the 6.0, but it will cost you a good chunk of change to addres its issues....and it has several. But on the upside, they're bitchin looking trucks, especially lifted. My previous truck was an 04 f250 lifted. I had to get rid of it because of its expensive engine repairs. But, had I known about Cummins conversions, I would have kept it and installed a cummins. "Too little-too late."
