I am looking to install some numbered gauges in my 2007 f-350 6.0. A oil temp., water temp., tranmission temp., and possiblity a exhaust temp. gauge.. but i am unsure of the reason for the exhaust temp gauge. The site that i will be ordering from is recomending it . So my question is why the exhaust temp? Also would like to know how to set up my truck so I can "roll coal" but want to do this without harming the engine. any adivce would be appreciated.

 

Thats several gauges, you might want to look into getting a programmer that has a display monitor that would allow you to see multiple engine parameters on one screen. EGT is pretty important especially if you do much towing. Keeping egt from getting too hot will help your engine and turbo last longer. The rolling coal fad is dying out man but, a programmer would be your first start.

 

Place a loose tire in the bed and light it on fire! There, now you have your black smoke and no harm to your engine.

Rolling coal is the STOOPIDEST thing that you can do with a diesel. You're not only wasting fuel, but you are giving the tree huggers all of the reason that they need to put even more restrictions on diesels. Where do you think the whole DPF thing came from.

Diesel fuel is $4/gallon and you want to waste it to "look cool".

In case you didn't figure it out already, asking how to do that is an open invitation to get flamed.

I personally think "rolling coal" is one of the dumbest fads to come along, but flaming someone for it (unless your truck is a bone stock tow rig) is the pot calling the kettle black.

Puffing black smoke at spool up that clears up quickly is one thing (my truck cleaned up in THREE SECONDS on a truck pull video). It's all but unavoidable and doesn't not in any way make me the pot or the kettle.

"Rolling coal" means that you want to look like you're driving a Cummins and fog out the entire block. THAT is what gets all diesel owners the negative attention that leads to more stringent emissions requirements.

I suggest that you do some research in the archives, flaming someone for "how-to smoke" or "how to roll coal" isn't something I started yesterday.

It would appear as I am in the 50% that does make it off the pavement. Those scratches down the sides of my truck and across the roof didn't come from shopping carts in the Walmart parking lot.

 

I didn't say you started the flaming trend. I said flaming is low rent.

thanks alot for the advice about the guages... and to bad that alot ya'll are so against blowing black smoke but its my truck and i was just asking a question... black smoke , rolling coal is my business don't you think... and for the 4WD drivers i agree most of those NEVER leave pavement.i always thought that raising them up was stupid and stopped the whole purpose of getting a 3/4 or 1 ton anyway. what can you haul with your truck so far above ground? As far as tree huggers we don't have that problem here in Louisiana... so if i offended anyone with that question TO BAD!!!!! seems like alot of uptight folks in here>>>>>

 

If you wanna look cool make your truck like you want, tires, lift paint wheels, bumpers, etc. make it better at doing the things you need it for and let em see tail lights when you get itvdown the road!

Those are a good place to start and cover important items. I would also add a volt meter since low batteries are a problem.
Emissions tampering is already illegal in all the states. If enough people " roll coal" the govt. will probably make enforcement a priority and we will all have to have functioning egr valves and emissions equipment we have deleted. Some of us live in a Gestapo area already, hence the people getting upset about it. The common theme on this site is making your truck better and to suit you without getting unwanted scrutiny
