Default looking at an 03 f350

I'm going to look at an 03 f350 with the 6.0, now i know I can ask the dealer for an oasis report but I was wondering if there are things to look for to ldentify if the egr, oil cooler, or ficm are bad. The truck is a single rear wheel 4x4 crewcab longbed with an automatic and 160,000 miles. The dealership is asking 9000.00.

have them show you the temps of the engine coolant temp and engine oil temp make sure the spred isn't too much, if it is it may need some attention. By being close eliminates bad eoc, and egr cooler

Research carefully. You'll be much better off with a 7.3 PSD. The 6.0 will cost you. You'll have to shovel some cash into it to address its issues. Experience talking here. My previous ford 6.0 is the reason I have, and love my CTD. Again, research carefully!!

i bought my 2003 6.0 with 162k miles to be exact. problems started at 180k, and now reaching the 200k point and it hasnt ran in a month. also the reason i bought a 2nd gen cummins and loving every minute of it... yes they can be reliable if you address the issues, but its more trouble than its worth... solid truck, horrible engine. please dont make the mistake i did

What kind of problems? EGR, head gasket issues? Did your 6L have the EGR delete, oil cooler and/or coolant filter?

For me, 3 EGRs, 3 Oil coolers, one headgasket job, and 3 turbos in a year and a half. I went with Lemon Law and ford bought it back. It was later sold at auction (I feel sorry for the poor sap that bought it). I later got my Dodge CTD and never looked back.
