Default Fab TECH 6 or 8" lift.

hey all.

i was think weather or not i should do a 6" or a 8" lift. only thing is would you still be able to pull a toy hauler or a double car trailer? also which one rides better ( 6 or 8 )?

Considering that you want to tow, I'd stay 6". Most of the lift research I did revealed most suppliers used the same 6" lift track bar brackets and dropped pitman arms p/n for their 8" lifts.

As far as a rear lift, considering that you want to tow, I'd look into a single 8 inch traction block for a 6" lift (6" lift + factory 2.5 block = 8.5"). Single, as in don't stack your blocks. The traction bars will help out immensely whether towing or daily driving (I have Pro-Comp traction bars).

Generic nitrogen charged shocks are pretty stiff, trust me, I have some.

Because you are looking at 6~8, it's safe to assume that you are wanting to roll 37s. Given that, and you want to tow, NOT upgrading to a 4.30 gear would be a HUGE let down in towing performance. Besides, 37s/4.30s will keep your speedo closer to actual speeds.

Hmm a lot to think about. Thanks for the information. Guess I need to read more! Also about what's the price range on these kits? I've seen them for around 650-700.00 does that sound about right?

Id honestly go 6" and put some better shocks on there with a good set of traction bars. Most lifts come with cheap shocks that wont last very long. You can still fit a big size tire if thats what you want. All you will need to do is trimming and depending on what offset you get and what not.

curry! your truck is amazing! we have the same paint combo! is yours a king ranch? also what gears do you have on your rig? another thing, what if i went to a 8" i love the way your sits, would i have to do any trimming?

Thanks man it's a lariat. Stock gears 3.73. I will be putting in 4.30 or 4.56. And to fit wide 38s you will have to do some trimming. I took off a good 2-3 inches on the bottom fender and metal but put the same angle cut in it so it looks factory. Its no to bad I like it just have to get a pretty big drop hitch with towing and I don't fit on dealer alignment racks.

I recommend you visit Top Gun Customz for a reality check. I can't touch a 6" lift for my truck for that kind of money, and it's leaf springs up front! Seriously, you're looking at about $2000 in JUST a lift, another $1500-$2000 for 37 inch tires, and a cool $1000-$1500 for a set of 16X10 wheels, unless you manage to find a set on Craigslist. If you want 18s, BOHICA, it's even more. There's a reason why I don't have 355s on 18inch Racelines.

I dont know what your talking about Karl because my 6" lift cost $800 from National Tire and Wheel about 6 months ago. Yea it was blocks in the back but it came with shocks and springs for the front. took about 6hrs to install with a jack and 2 jack stands. Hardest part is getting the front axle to drop enough and compress the coils enough to fit under the truck. Lift is a Rough Country and fit excellent. I dont know why people knock them because they are a great lift. Everything was very beefy and welds looked great. And its the only lift I have ever done that didnt require me to go digging into the spare bolt bin or modify something to work that should have fit out of the box. I will link 6" lift I got.

Oh yeah, be careful with carrier bearing drop brackets. If these are not tapered, as in they push the carrier bearing straight down, you will end up eating your carrier bearing. OUO has one of the best carrier bearing drops that I have ever seen. It actually clocks the carrier bearing to maintain a straight line path of the driveline.

Have you ever seen a big Ryder van with 2 or 3 carrier bearings? They are all clocked to maintain driveshaft angle.

well im going to go check out the links thanks guys! also my rims are 20x8 or 9 what ever is on the stock king ranch 20" rims. but if im going to do it might as well spend my money once and be done with it. thanks all!
